|
|
When Ctrl-Clicking an transition bar to get the Export/Drag MIDI dialogue, those bars are exported empty. All other bars work fine.
Given that the Ctrl-Click Export/Drag MIDI functionality works correctly for all other bars, I assume the above is a bug.
Many thanks for a fun piece of software! |

| Yes that is not working correctly. I'll report it to support. |

Further issues to the same found:
If loading up Jamstix, and directly selecting a style (and kit), Jamstix randomly only exports blank midi or just the first notes despite more items showing in the groove and can be previewed correctly. The same applies for exporting the whole song to midi.
Upon even further testing I can't get any midi to export correctly now under any circumstances, either by saving midi or drag-and-drop into the timeline.
Further testing; now I can export again with the limitation of the transition bar remaining blank.
I'm a bit puzzled, I can't see any obvious reason why these extensive and intermittent midi export issues are occurring. Seems like some generic bugs associated with the functionality lurking around. What conditions have to be fulfilled for the export functionality to work correctly (beyond the transition bar bug)?
I'm using Jamstix Studio 4.4.0 Beta 1 and Reaper 5.982 on Windows 10.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks, downloaded the beta and tried it, some observations:
The intermittent midi export issues remain. To re-create; load Jamstix, select Style and Kit, try to export any bar = blank export, or just first notes exported. Preview of groove sounds correct. The issue remains until a song is built (see below).
Building the "default" song (Basic Rock, James Stix, Rock Default Natural kit): Can export transition bar now, and export of all other bars seems to work correctly so far. However, the change from "circles" to "squares" to indicate different song parts are off by one in the bar timeline, the change of circle/square indication is one bar late. Color is however correct ie orange for transition bar, pink for repetition bar.
I have not tried to load a song to check export function.
Hope this helps. |

You have to build your song before there is anything to export. |

You have to build your song before there is anything to export. |
Thanks, I notice the following in the manual:
| Code: | | If you are NOT using the FULL composition mode, you must have played the song, partor bar at least once before using EXPORT BAR, PART or SONG (or drag-&-drop) or you may end up with empty or partial bars. |
Note: There is no clear explanation of what "FULL composition" means in the manual, I assume it is the "BUILD -> Create Song" feature?
Following my previous sequence of events (load up Jamstix, select a style and a kit) and also playing numerous or all bars (as suggested by the manual), even recomposing the default Verse that is set up (4 bars, 30 repetitions), yields "empty or partial bars". However, changing the default Verse to 29 repetitions will correctly export regardless of whether I've played any bar or not.
This can be reproduced as follows (Studio Edition 4.4.0 Beta 2):
Load up Jamstix.
Select a Style.
Select a Kit.
Try exporting bar 1 = blank or partial export.
Change default Verse from 30 to 29 repetitions.
Try exporting bar 1 = correct export.
To go back to the suggestion:
| a_zimuth wrote: | | You have to build your song before there is anything to export. |
This is only partially correct, it seems to work anyway as described above.
Some suggestions:
Consider preventing export functionality before some basic conditions are met. For instance, verify a Style and Kit have been selected - if not, give a warning instead.
Given that export worked correctly by merely changing the repetitions of the default part, without actually having to play a single bar, suggests there may be room to consider triggering the same build of the part in background when the software is launched. Alternatively, it could perhaps be possible to trigger this build manually, as would possibly be expected when using the "Recompose" functionality on the Part.
Final note:
The off-by-one indication of Part change (ie circles/squares) in the timeline has been confirmed during this further testing.
Hope this helps in improving the software further. |

The problem with the default part not exporting correctly will be fixed in the next update. Thanks for the step-by-step, made it easy to replicate and locate the problem! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

4.4.0 Beta 3 is now out fixing the issue with timeline bar shapes from Beta 2 and the MIDI export when using just a default part. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for the update! To assist, I've tried to "break" the midi export function for a little while....unsuccessfully. It seems like its working as intended, brilliant!
The symbols are correct again as well, confirmed.
Will let you know if I discover anything. But so far; trouble free enjoyment! |
