I converted a Ludwig Accent Combo 5 piece kit someone gave me to edrums using Billy Blast 3 ply mesh heads, UFOdrums ebridges and rim condoms and a 32 input Megadrum. I also did a DIY conversion of the hi-hat stand by affixing a magnet (taken out of an old hard drive) to the chain and attaching a small terminal strip to the hi-hat's "stirrup" that holds a 1302 Hall Effect sensor so that when I press down on the pedal the magnet comes with in 1mm of the sensor. The Megadrum has a hi-hat controller input that converts the signal to CC04.
I'm posting to mention that I prefer the kits from Jamstix XL to Superior Drummer 2. They play better right out of the box without spending hours tweaking. The hi-hat works very well also |

| Just curious, how fine of a resolution are you generating for CC4 with the Hall sensor HH set up you've built? Sounds like a really cool project. |

Hi Azimuth,
The pedal registers on the MegaDrum from 445 to 720. I haven't hooked up MidiOx to see how that translates but someone on the MegaDrum forum said as long its 127 or higher between low level and high level you're good.
I would be happy to answer any questions about this setup. It took me a while to sort through the electronic drum forums and youtube videos before I decided to go this route. Then it took me a while to sort out what was a good starting point. A drummer I know built his own DIY "e-bridges" (the part that supports the piezo and connects to the inside of the shell) that have separate struts to each lug so rim shots are the same all the way around. I just put the rim piezo on a flange connect to one lug at 1 o'clock. It was a fun project that had a few head scratching moments along the way. The shells you use aren't that important. I saw one post where a drummer cut all the shells down by half so the kit took up less space. |

First off, congrats on a cool DIY project!
Secondly, thank you for your kind words about how JS kits mesh well with your e-drum kit. I remember spending countless hours getting responses right while playing a Roland TD20, especially the hihat response, as I was eager to make sure JS would play well with e-drums.

So you are a drummer!! I thought so. The way you answer questions people ask about songs made me think you might a drummer. And a really good one too!! Your knowledge about beats/grooves is deep.
Then I thought programming requires a really deep knowledge of math so that maybe why.....
Anyway, been wanting to ask. |
