I have a 4-bar sequence (4/4, 2/4, 4/4, 5/4) that's repeated 7 times. Is there a simple way to deal with entering this into the song sheet?

Can the "linked to" menu thing within the Part Editor be used to link bars 2, 3, & 4 to bar 1, and then repeat the entire sequence 7 times? There's not much of an explanation for what this does in the manual.

No because linking the parts will make them all exact copies of Part 1. Do the following:

1) Shift+left click to select/highlight the 4 existing parts
2) Right click in the Song Sheet>Copy Part>Copy Part.
3) Left click the last song part (5/4) to select/highlight.
4) Right click in the Song Sheet>Paste Part>Paste 4 New Parts After Current Part.
5) Repeat steps 3 & 4 as needed.

Thank you. I'm definitely not very familiar with the capabilities of mouse/keyboard combinations for simplifying tasks.

Thank you!

I wasn't aware that we could do this.

Is this a new feature in Jamstix4? Or was it in Jamstix3, and I just never knew it?

Either way, thanks!

I believe it was the same in JS3 but it has been a while since I used it so I can't say for sure.

EDIT: I just checked and it was the same in JS3. Funny but going back to JS3 now feels foreign after using JS4.

OK, I've done as you said, and it works.... but it's a pain. Not the copying, but setting up the individual bars.

As I said above, it's a 4-bar sequence of 4/4, 2/4, 4/4, & 5/4 that's repeated 7 times (8 total repetitions, I worded that poorly). I'm not a musician and have no academic training. Could you say that those 4 bars are equal to 1 bar of 15/4?

If so, then instead of setting up 4 individual bars with different time sigs, could I just do 2 bars of 15/8 (since Jamstix won't go higher than 9/4) and have JS play it 8 times? It would eliminate having to copy multiple times.

I'm not a musician either, just a hack Guitarist who took Piano lessons as a kid. I think that 15/8 would work also.

Somewhat related followup question... when you're dealing with time sig. changes, does it matter if you make the time sig. changes in the host before or after you create them in JS? I know it would be a mess if you tried playing back a song with multiple changes if the host was set to a straight 4/4, but I mean just setting the song up in the first place.

In other words, do you have to have the host set up with with the time sig. changes at the correct measures beforehand, kind of like a template, or, can your create your song in JS and then, say, go to whatever measures you need to in the host and change the time sigs to match your song before playing it for the first time?

You can do it either way but I usually do Jamstix first and then my DAW second. Whatever works for you.
