I'm working my way through "Hammond Organ Bass Demystified" by Eddie Landsberg. I also picked out a few tunes I like to learn by ear. Creating the song structure in Jamstix to match the song is a breeze and I'm getting much better at matching the groove and changes.

What's fantastic is I can easily increase the bar count for parts and practice my left hand bass until it's "running on it's own" with a realistic drummer (Jamstix) instead of a boring drum machine pattern that just repeats over and over. It makes practice a pleasure.

Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. Can you give us some detail on how you create this particular songs, please? For example, for this style that you are learning, which style and drummer do you choose? Thank you.

Sorry for delayed response. The phpBB logged me out and I lost what I wrote in the first round.

I think your request for detail is a great idea so here goes:

First I want to mention that I first posted a YouTube link of a Delvon Lamar Trio groove I wanted to get going and Ralph provided me the basis I started with:
http://rayzoon2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8009&highlight=

If you play rock, blues or R&B I strongly recommend the BonzoPak. I'm using the Dry kit and it sounds good even without any tweaking.

I'm using Drummer Mark with Preset Restrained. For a long time I usually just used Verse and Chorus in the Song Sheet but lately have been putting in Bridges, Pre-Chorus, Intro's and Endings and vary the Power between sections. Usually more into the red for Choruses and backed off for Bridges.

I have the Swing checked for 16th as Ralph recommend and the slider in the middle of the red area to the right.

In the Time section I have the slider set to where yellow meets green for the Chorus but slid even more back into the yellow for the Verse.

For the Chorus I increase the power into the red section of the slider.

In the Groove section > Groove tab I think I left everything default for Standard Rock > Preset "Basic 4". In the Fill tab I have the Tom Fill Lengths at 25% with Focus at 50% for Snare and 20% for Toms. I have No Groove at the top checked. I have the Power Hand_1 slider all the way right for Verse (stays on hi-hat) and in the middle for Chorus which causes Mark to play the ride cymbal.

I would be happy to post screenshots.

I have two ideas that I think would really help the Jamstix community:

1. It would be great to have some sort of library/exchange of settings people could share with screenshots and audio.
2. Not this this board isn't already the following but formalizing it would help - a section called something like "Help Me Get This Drumming" where you post a YouTube link of a cover you are trying to create a backing track for or drumming you want Jamstix to perform which people can then answer with advice and settings.

Hello d_steinschneider,

thank you very much for your very detailed answer. I will experiment with settings like yours. Sometimes I have difficulties to get good results in some jazz styles, so knowing how to handle some situations one can learn to solve another one.

Your idea sounds good. Or, in place of a library with screenshots and audio, maybe it could be more direct to post files. For example here http://rayzoon2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8054 there was a suggestion. I think it not needs to be a complete song, it could be a groove too, for example.
