Oops. I saw jamstix4.exe in the ProgramData folder and made an assumption. My mistake. |

| I got your e-mail with the link to the C++ install, but that's it. Reinstalling C++ didn't do anything |

Can I ask a few basic questions:
-- exactly which version of Reaper are you using?
-- 64-bit or 32-bit?
-- can you post a pic of the Jamstix Installation Manager / Install Options?
-- exactly where is the jamstix4.dll installed?
-- what does it show in the reaper-vstplugins.ini (or the 64-bit equivalent) file for jamstix4?
-- exactly where are the vcruntime140.dll and msvcp140.dll located?
For info, I have
-- vcruntime140.dll in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64
-- msvcp140.dll in C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64
In both cases, the first is the 64-bit version and the second is the 32-bit version.
Have a look at:

Please email or PM me your email address used to send info to me. It appears not to be the one on your forum account and we got several emails for this thread so not sure who is who. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

The problem I had was on my Windows 7 system so keep that in mind if you decide to reinstall Win 7. |

Ok - reinstalled Win 7x64 SP1, and installed the 64 bit versions of Reaper and JS. Reaper still doesn't see the JS DLL in the Reaper plugin folder (yes, I added the path in the Reaper preferences).
If I click on 're-scan,' the box appears and disappears in the blink of an eye.
If I click on 'clear cache/re-scan' I get the error message that the program can't start because MSVCP140.dll is missing from the computer. This is the same message I got and mentioned in my first post in this topic.
Neither MSVCP140.dll nor VCRUNTIME140.dll are in my Windows\system32 folder. I have no idea if they were there (or required) when I was successfully using JS 4.2.0. I would think that they weren't there. If they were, why would an upgrade remove them? When this problem started a few days ago, after I upgraded to v4.2.2 I mean, I added the two DLLs to the system32 folder manually (copied them from another Win 7 computer), but when I tired to register them it wouldn't take.
So that's where I stand. Ralph, per your request I'll contact you with my e-mail address so you'll know who's who around here.
DarkStar, to answer your questions:
I'm using the newest version of Reaper, v5.965 64-bit (that's all I've ever used)
The jamstix4.dll is located in C;\Program Files\Reaper (x64)\Plugins
(I selected this path in the JS install manager and it put it there successfully)
In the reaper-vstplugins64.ini, the JS entry says jamstix4.dll=57040273D3B0D401
As mentioned above and in another of my posts, neither MSVCP140.dll nor VCRUNTIME140.dll are in my Windows\system32 folder. There are instances of each in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, however.

Hmm, that folder is intended for Reaper's own plug-in, not third-party ones. I was pretty sure that Reaper does not scan that folder. Other users have run into problems with plug-ins in that folder.
| Quote: | | In the reaper-vstplugins64.ini, the JS entry says jamstix4.dll=57040273D3B0D401 |
That means that Reaper did find jamstix4 at some stage, but ran into a problem and now it subsequently ignores it.
I've got those MS Visual C++ files in a Firefox folder too - I reckon they are used only by Firefox.
---------------------------------
On the Reaper / plug-in side:
-- I would create your own folder for plug-ins, e.g. C:/VST_64/ with sub-folders if you wish
-- then reinstall Jamstix into there (I do not know how to uninstall / reinstall Jamstix)
-- install other plug-ins into there too.
-- remove "C:\Program Files\Reaper (x64)\Plugins" from the path list and add in the folder you created.
As for the MS Visual C++ files I do not know why they were not installed during the Jamstix install. If Ralph says it's ok, I would try downloading the installer from Microsoft and installing them yourself. Adding the dll files is probably not enough. |

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that the Reaper\Plugins folder wasn't for 3rd party plugins. I only used it because none of the paths listed in the JS manager and Reaper plugins preferences exist on my PC. I don't remember what path I used with v4.2.0. I'll create a new folder and put it there.
I don't understand what you mean by "then reinstall Jamstix into there" though? Sure, move the plugin there and change the path, but what else? JS downloads into the folder specified in the JS Manager, and the only other location is a hierarchy of folders in Program Data\Jamstix4.
FYI, the MSV C++ files didn't get installed during the JS download because I had already installed them manually. I had the installation EXE on my PC. Just so we're clear, these are the 2010 64-bit versions of the C++ files (v10.0.40219). My other Win 7 PC has several additional 64-bit versions on it as well, versions 12.xxxx & 14.xxxx
Edit - I moved the JS dll to a new plugins folder I created and updated the path in Reaper, but still got the same MSVCP140.dll error message.
So the only place you have the MSVCP140.dll & VCRUNTIME140.dll are in your Firefox folder? Not in System32? |

Another update...
The 2010 version of the MSV C++ files DOES NOT install the MSVCP140 & VCRUNTIME140 DLLs (maybe you already know this). Neither do the 2012 and 2013 versions. (I have all these here because they come packaged with video drivers, etc). I tried opening JS in Reaper after installing both of these versions and still got the DLL error message.
The 2015 version DOES, and when I installed it and asked Reaper to 'clear cache/re-scan' it did it without the error. Then I tried loading JS and it fired right up.
So apparently everything works again. If those DLLs are required files then it makes no sense that updating to v4.2.2 would delete them, so it makes me think that v4.2.0 didn't need them? They weren't in my \System32 folder before I reinstalled Win 7, but v4.2.0 worked fine.
Just giving you my experience. I *think* I'm good to go now. |

Well to add to the mystery, I've got MSVC 2010 ONLY installed on my Win 7 64bit system that had the problem you described but both MSVCP140.dll & VCRUNTIME140.dll are in 3 different locations, system32, syswow & Thunderbird install. They are apparently 3 different versions also judging by the file sizes. They were in the same locations when the problem occurred and nothing has changed since the problem "disappeared". Strange stuff.
Anyway, I am glad that Jamstix is working for you now. |

And there are similar files in the Firefox folders (and in Norton Security too). There are 4 different sub-versions of version 14.00! And they are for Visual C++ 2015. If you do a Search for them in Explorer, you can add "Product Version" to the display - right-cllick the results column title bar in Explorer and select it.
| Quote: | | I don't understand what you mean by "then reinstall Jamstix into there" though? | I said that as I was not certain that just moving the dll file would be OK - there may be some hidden dependencies or future installs could run into problems. Uninstall / reinstall seemed safer.
Anyway, I'm glad too |

If anyone else in this thread (or just reading it) is still having issues getting 4.2.2 to run, let me know. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
