ahhhhh. well I don't have much time to deal with this right now (actually, any time) but it's rare that an error message makes me laugh out loud

CNC ERROR: Invalid pointer operation @ Scanning product MUU

I mean, I checked the tolerances on the lathe, everything looks good...

Any quick tips on this? AI-only download seemed to complete without error, the first machine I tried installing to is running win7sp1, Reaper 64 bit, working fine with JS3.

Nobody? wow, my own unique error message. What an honor!

I got it to work, after a few tries the installer let me past the "load install" stage (still with the same error message) and continue with the installation. First time it installed just the AI pak and hung -- task manager said the installer was running but showed 0% cpu. I let it sit a while but it never continued the install.

Closed the installer, started it again, and it finished installing the rest of the components.

Installing as AI-only and copying the sound directory from JS3 did not work, for whatever reason. Reinstalling as "use Jamstix 3 sounds" did work.

This was all on a clean win7-64 install on a haswell i5 thinkpad running Reaper 64 and JS3 64 without issues. So, who knows. It's working now.

But I have to think the offline installer is not quite ready for prime time.

That's a weird one, glad you got it working!

yep -- weird to the point of comical, it's like there's some code left over from an unrelated application. Happily JS4 itself seems fine, haven't had a chance to really try it fully but it does generate a song track and plays it without incident. The problem appears to be limited to the installer.

Shouldn't be hard to replicate, just need a vanilla win7-64 sp1 installation and the offline installer. I tried it briefly on another (no daw stuff installed) machine, similar "CNC ERROR".

I do have a windows 10 installation (sitting on an ssd in a drawer, where I'd planned to leave it till hell freezes over). I'm almost curious enough to drag that out and see if the installer behaves the same way. Almost...

Apologies for the jokey tone of some of my posts -- probably came across as sarcasm, not my intent, but probably not productive either.

And a mea culpa -- the reason copying the JS3 sound directory to JS4 didn't work is because I'd copied to Programdata\Jamstix4 instead of Programdata\Jamstix4\data. Didn't notice until last night when I was looking at the Jamstix4.ini. Either "use JS3 sounds" or copying the JS3 sound folder to JS4 works fine.

That leaves the installer that hangs, or doesn't, for reasons unknown, and throws an incomprehensible error message either way.

When I have time I'll re-download the AI-only package and see if the problem goes away. In the meantime JS4 seems to be working fine.

In the Manager, I selected "use Jamstix 3 sound data" (I have Jamstix 3 Xl and the expansion packs) and clicked OK.

Q5: Is there any way to save the download for reinstallation later? (Yep, I'm looking at you, Native Access Wink)

A5: The downloaded data is saved in the C:\ProgramData\Jamstix 4 Data\cache folder for repair purposes.

Just an update on this: in my installation those cache repair files are in the Jamstix 4 Data folder (on a different disk) that I selected in the Installation Manager, not in the ProgramData sub-folder. Nothing-else is there.

The JS4 kits, styles, players and so on are in the C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data sub-folders.

This does seem the wrong way round to me. I have asked Ralph if I can move them Shocked Shocked

The data folder you specify in the manager during installation will contain the RXP4 installation files and the sample data. In other words, the largest files and the files needing the best HD speed. You can specify any drive you like here.

The rest of the JS4 files don't amount to a lot of disk space required and are in the ProgramData folder for simplicity's sake.

We will reconsider this arrangement in future updates/versions.

Understood. - As I selected "the Jamstix 3 sound data" during the install that data folder contains only the cache repair files. Smile

I was wondering about the other files not because of the disk space, but for ease / convenience of access.
