Hi just thought I would let everyone know, that Pluginboutigue is doing a deal for this plugin at under £15.00 . I have been trying the demo and learning about Jamsix4 keymapping while doing so.

These kits are slow to load but they seem to have a lot of variety of sound for a very good price.

So if anyone is looking for some more sounds to add to Jamstix but can't run to EZ drummer etc, it might be worth trying the demo to see what you think..

A quick question regarding the extra articulations these kits ride cymbals have compared to Jamstix. They have three Jamstix has two. I am assuming I have to use a crash cymbal or other Jamtstix kit piece and assign the extra ride articulation to that to use it? Is this correct?

They have ride, bell and bow. Jamstix has bell and side I think it is?

Thanks

No, just assign Jamstix Ride articulation to whatever 2 Sonivox articulations are appropriate (edge & bow). Then assign JS bell to Sonivox bell.

Hi Azimuth
You have confused me there?

Jamstix has two articulations on the ride cymbal (ride and bell)
Big Bang drums has three available (edge, bow and bell).

So if I map Jamstix to play edge and bell, what happens to the third articulation (bow).
In compose mode, how would Jamstix know it was there to make use of it or am I not understanding something?

Interestingly, the Big Bang Tom's have only one articulation, whereas Jamstix has two (center and offset).
I have been reading the manual and it said you could remove this extra articulation, when using third party software, if not required but I wasn't entirely clear how you did that.

As Jamstix has a couple of extra toms, I was thinking I could map the offsets to the spare toms and Jamstix could use them when composing. Is that correct?

I have only been experimenting with mapping other drum modules for a little while, so I am not sure I am fully understanding the process yet.

Hi Andy,

Check out this thread and see if it clears things up for you:

http://rayzoon2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7842&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=mapping

Basically as you noted JS has 2 articulations, Ride & Bell
Sonivox has 3, Ride, Bow & Bell.

Map JS Ride articulation to BOTH Sonivox Ride & Bow
Map JS Bell to Sonivox Bell.

Ahh! I didn't know you could map more than one articulation to the same key. I thought you had to use a separate one for each, as they have a little asteroid next to them saying they are in use.I thought if you mapped a new one, you would remove the old one.

So on the hi hats, where Jamstix has more choices, such as 75 % and 25% etc, you can do the same thing? I just mapped open to open closed to close, and what ever else Sonivox had that was the same and ignored the ones Jamstix had over, because I didn't know what to do with them.

My next plan, was to have a look at some of the BFD mappings that Jamshid provides and see how they were mapped. To see if that would make things clearer.. I will give that a try.
Thanks for your help.

I think I just noticed we're talking about two different things sort of. You're referring to the MIDI Key and Linkage Editor and I'm referring to making a new .mdmap file. Check out the .mdmap files located in your C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\midimaps folder used for mapping 3rd party plugins with Notepad. They should fully explain to you how to create a mapping file for the Sonivox instrument.
It's a two way street. Midi OUT OF JS to a 3rd party works left to right used as the KIT OUTPUT mapping whereas midi INTO JS from another source works right to left used as the KIT INPUT mapping.

Yes that's my misunderstanding Azimuth..
I thought the key mapping and midi mapping were the same thing.

I thought when you assigned keys to notes in the kit editor window, that Jamstix was then creating a midimap but it's not, it's creating a key map.
When I read the thread talking about lines with commas between them being assigned to the same kitpiece, such as 12 = 60,61,62 for the Ride cymbalI was baffled.

I knew that each articulation had its own note number on the keyboard from 1 to 127 but I wasn't seeing how this related to assigning notes in the kit editor window or how you would assign two or more to the same note.

Not sure I have fully grasped it yet but I think I am getting there..

Once again thanks for your help.

Somewhat related ...

In the EZDrummer mdmap file, I see, for example:
Quote:
15=55,27,28,29,49 ;Crash 1
-- does the initial "15" signify anything, other than a reference number?
-- I can see in the Keymap that MIDI #55 is named "Crash 1"
-- what are the other numbers 27,28,29,49 used for?

I also saw:
Quote:
54=60 ;Hihat Open
[Chokes]
; Crash 1
CH_15=54
-- does that mean that ref#54 (Hihat Open) chokes ref#15 (Crash 1)
-- or vice versa, or both?
