|

I just started with a clean slate on my computer and realized I never saved a copy of the latest Jamstix Manager program. I checked my old Downloads webpage but that is still all JS3 stuff. _________________ Core i7 4712QM, 16GB, Cubase 9 Pro on Windows 10. Scarlett 2i2. M-Audio Axiom Pro 61. Komplete 8. Jamstix 3.6. Just go to the free version download on our web site, which will give you the manager. It's the same tool for free and full versions. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I purchased Jamstix, Jamcussion and several add-ons on April 6, 2016. It appears that this purchase date qualifies me for the free upgrade to version 4.
I lost the computer onto which JS/JC 3 were installed. I bought a new computer and would like to install version 4 of these items.
However, I cannot activate version 4. I downloaded the free trial and attempted to enter my license key, but it does not accept it.
I did not receive a license key for version 4 - the replacement key that I received today is version 3.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

Hi Jeffrey,
Jamstix 4 uses a new customer key. Go here and click the link to get your customer key:

Hi Ralph -
I just installed JS 4; no issues with the install.
Thank you for the quick (and weekend!) response!
The new version looks great!
I know I previously asked (and you answered) this, but can you point me to a thread that shows the correct routing set up so that JS/JC can respond to a pre-existing recording?
Also, will the following work?
I have Presonus Studio One 4, and on Track One I have acoustic bass, swing, for about 6 minutes ("There Will Never Be Another You," a common Jazz standard).
I would like JS/JC to play along with and ideally respond to the bass. The bass is an audio recording of an excellent actual bass player who, being human, is not keeping strictly metronomic time. He's not speeding up / slowing down or doing rubato, but if his playing is played to a click track on the DAW, the time might fall apart. At least it did when I tried it.
Succinctly stated, can JS/JC respond to slight tempo variations? I'd rather not quantize his playing if I don't have to - it really grooves.
Regardless of whether JS/JC can do this, the new programs looks great!
Best,
- Jeff Newton |

Hi Jeff,
To do what you want with the previously recorded Bass track, you will have to "tempo map" it in Studio One. I use Reaper so I can't offer any help on how to do that in your DAW. Once you tempo map the Bass track then Jamstix will follow Studio One in sync just as it would normally. It's a one way street, Studio One has to tell Jamstix the tempo.
Here's a tut video I found that explains the procedure in S1:

Hope this helps. |

Apparently tempo mapping is a measure by measure endeavor. That would take a LOT of time for a bunch of Jazz tunes.
You said you use Reaper - does it have automatic tempo mapping? Apparently Logic and Cubase do; Presonus is behind in this.
Also, is there any special bass track output > Jamstix track input that I have to do?
Thanks,
- Jeff |

Hi Jeff,
It's a manual affair in Reaper also but it is a lot quicker than you'd think once you get the work flow going. As far as tempo goes, there is no additional send required from the Bass track, just the tempo mapping itself. If you wanted to vary the Song Power in Jamstix based upon the Bass track then you would use the Audiom8 plugin for that. See pg. 57 of the user manual. |
