Not sure where to post such a query, so i'll just create a new topic here.
I've been scouring the manual (for JS3 - haven't upgraded yet) for a brain element that would allow me to emphasize snare. I seem to recall a "snare emphasis" element where each snare was forced to be hit with a tom hit, however there seems to be no way to create snare emphasis with a crash (and the snare emphasis is in the Fills anyway, while i need it for Groove or Accent). This is used a lot in heavier rock music. Currently, i have to manually edit the groove to achieve this effect, but it would be great to generate it on the fly.
Does JS3 have that? Would JS4 allow me to do that? |

Hi,
The only way I know to do that automatically on Snare hits only in JS3 is with the AI Pak. Extract from other style Jazz & Swing>Big Band>Accent-Crashes. You could extract from other player Roger "Cymbals" but that will generate Crashes on both Kick and Snare hits. I'm sure Ralph will chime in if I'm missing some way to do this also.
This appears to still be the case in JS4 as far as I can tell. |

as far as i'm aware, the "crashes" accent will generate crashes on every heavy beat. for my purposes, it technically doesn't even have to be crashes on snare per se - just a crash on every 2nd heavy beat (i.e. beats 2 and 4), which happens to coincide with snare hits |

| Yes, I forgot about that accent generator. That does do the same thing as extracting "Cymbals" from Roger. Glad that works for you. |

I'd do this:
- clear a bar and place two right-hand crash cymbals on beats 2 and 4 (or any other pattern you'd like)
- click BAR menu->Save Bar and give it a descriptive name
- click BRAIN menu->Add->Groove Importer
- in the importer, select mode 'Jamstix Groove' and then click to load your saved bar
- adjust the PRIO knob left until the crashes overwrite the right hand events of the underlying style _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Excellent. I will try that with a specific kick pattern that I need, don’t wanting JS to compose his own pattern, aside from little variations. I suppose it should be done so like you say, Ralph. |
