I'm learning how to play Hammond B3 bass lines for swing blues. I want my player to play like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQlp_8iBW2M

(Bernard Purdie playing with Reuben Wilson on Hammond)

Any help on this appreciated in advance. If I need AI Pak to achieve this I'm open to buying it.

I tried the brush player with jazz swing and I can't get him to swing on the ride cymbal.

Thanks,

Doug

The AIPak will give you a lot more options in this area but here's a stab at this with the default install.

STYLE: Jazz Swing
- set 'Swing Ride' to 100%
- set 'Kick' to 0% Amount
- set 'Snare' to 0% Funk, 0% Power Range and 50% Amount
- BRAIN->Extract From Other Player: get 'Main Kick' from 'Custom Rock' style
PLAYER: Roger with preset 'Restrained'

In the accent tab, use 'Early One' to control the frequency of jazzy early downbeats (4+) and you probably will want to turn the tom accents down.

Hey Doug,

I just followed the link you provided to see what you were referring to and wound up listening to the entire track. Great stuff that I had never heard before. Definitely going to be exploring Reuben Wilson a lot more. Thanks for that. Grant Green was an added bonus, he's great.

I'm doing a deep dive into Hammond trio music. I bought a book by Eddie Landsberg called "Hammond Organ Bass Lines Demystified" and he stresses listening to, among many others, Reuben Wilson. I've been listening to that album ("Organ Blues") over and over and it just doesn't get old. Very Happy

Hi Ray, thanks for the tips - trying the default install tips now but I also just purchased the AI Pak. I'll explore that myself but any tips again will be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

Just noticed in styles under Blues there is "Purdie Shuffle". Has that been there all along? I've been having some fun with that and drag and drop importing.

I bought the AIPak back when I asked this question so I never tried the above until now. It works very well for a simple rock swing.
