Hi,

I am long-time Jamstix user. I just tried V4 free version in order to evaluate if an update makes sense to me. I must admit the new features do not provide overwhelming additional value for me (in fact, there is very little new functionality). However, I would still be willing to pay the 50 dollars if you can give satisfying answers the following points:

1. Is an Internet connection needed to install Jamstix? And can the Jamstix be transferred to a new computer just by copying the relevant folders (i.e. the VST and data folders and the respective folder in ProgramData)?
2. Has challenge/response copy protection been introduced? (If so, I will definitely not upgrade!!!)
3. Jamstix is trying to connect to the Internet when the VST is loaded? Why so and how to prevent this?
4. Where can the color schemes for the user interface be configured? This was a promised feature (and I can only see the option to edit the kit colors). I must add that this is an important point for me (since we do not seem to share the same color preferences) and I believe the feature should now be easy to implement for you since the new interface is vector based.
5. I defined many custom kits and mappings in V3. Can these be imported into V4? How?
6. What about the styles/drummer models that came with the extended version of the AI pack that you once sold (and which I got). Will I receive those, too, when upgrading?

Thanks an best, drjee

ps: why did/do you not hire a talented graphics designer? To me, the new interface does not look much better than the old ones. I am sorry to not be able to say something more friendly, but I believe your chances of winning the "worst GUI design award" are high. I could easily imagine that your sales will multiply with a better (= nicer and more user friendly) GUI.

Yes, Internet is required for the manager to work. However, it is not required for Jamstix to run. We are working on an offline installer mode so you can easily install Jamstix without Internet on the target computer.

There is no C/R protection in Jamstix.

Jamstix checks for updates and news. You can disable it in the 'Options' screen under 'Check for updates'

Skins will be provided as a free upgrade in 1 to 2 months.

You can copy JS3 kit files into the JS4 kit folder. If you've created key map files in JS3, they need to be converted to the JS4 mapping format.

All expansion have been updated for JS4 and are available at no additional cost with the $49 upgrade.

This is a subjective area. We've had many users compliment us on the new interface. We will continue to implement improvements with free updates over the next year.

Hi,

based on the information given above I today ordered (and received) Jamstix 4.

1. Unlike you were saying it seems that the drummer models/styles of my extended version of the AI pack, with the metal pack drummers/styles which was once on offer, are missing (just the usual ones are included). How to get them?

2. Although you claim that there is no kind of challenge/response copy protection, Jamstix was disabled after I moved the data folder from "ProgramData\Jamstix4" to another location (of course, I adjusted the respective setting in the jamstix4.ini before). Jamstix told that I shoud start the manager to authorrize the software. I even did that but the manager said that everything was fine. So I am thinking: why authorize if there is no challenge/response and all data files are there? And why can't I move the data folder to a location that is included in my general backup routine?

Thanks für your help, drjee

I've just adjusted your record. Please run the manager again and you will have access to the MetalPak drummers.

There is no C/R protection in JS4.

The Jamstix 4 folder under ProgramData cannot be moved. The size of this folder is negligible since the large files (sound data) are located in the JS4 data folder, which can be moved via the manager.

thanks for the fast reply and for providing the metal drummers!

Please, however, consider making the data folder moveable again as it was in jamstix3 (as far as I remember: when it was not found there a was popup and a dialog in order to point at it). This way it is much easier to backup which is necessary since user related data (like user kits) is stored there.

Cheers, drjee

Especially with all of this Spectre and Meltdown stuff going on, I am inclined to update to v4 when it becomes possible to do so entirely offline.

Thanks for answering the OP's questions.
