Using REAPER 5.62, I want JS to generate midi notes based on Bass Drum.

BD => Send midi note to a track with a Bass VST.

I'm aware it will be boring, always the same note but I only want the midi note to be "locked" with the bass drum then later on I will change the pitch of the note itself.

So in JS4, for BD I send C3, from MIDI 1.
In Reaper I put a receive from the track where JS4 is set as the instrument.

But I can't get JS4 triggering a note on BD hits.

Is there some MIDI monitoring I can do on the receiving track to help me figure it out?

Thanks a lot !

At this time, audio jam is only based on dynamics, not individual notes. We have been working on a 'MIDI locked' element that will listen to MIDI notes and trigger a specified sound in response. This should make its way into one of the free updates next year. Until then, I'd make a copy of the bass track, set it all to #36 (kick drum) and feed it into Jamstix in 'Normal Jam' mode with 'MIDI Play In Jam' checked in the options. That way Jamstix will play the kick notes.

I think you want more than I really want/need...

In the end I simply want a MIDI track with only the bass drum note. Just that. So I just export by dragging MIDI into host instead of having a new track listening for MIDI note.

Hi Dali_S

Why not just create a midi send from your Jamstix track to another Reaper track, set it to record Output (MIDI) and insert JS:MIDI Note Filter set to note #36? Then create another midi send from there to your Bass VSTi track.

I almost did this first but something wasn't working...

I got it now and the problem was with "No MIDI output for internal sounds" on the bass drum.

In fact, there's a bug in Reaper or JS4 because on my system, this setting isn't saved with song. I unclick it(so MIDI is sent) save the Reaper song but on loading the song again, it is still clicked (so no MIDI sent to the Bass track).

Can you check if this works for you? I will send a Bug report to Ralph if you get it too.

Dali

Hi Dali_S,

I just checked on my Win 10 Surface and that setting is saved correctly whether I save the song within Jamstix or if I just save the Reaper project. When I reload the project, it reflects the correct setting for it doing it either way. Is there a chance that you are using a project template that has it set that way?

EDIT: I just tried it again and I actually don't even have to save the song or Reaper project at all. If it still does not set it correctly try changing the line "IntSoundNoMIDI" to =0 in C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\jamstix4.ini
