New to JS. Been banging my head on this. HELP!
I'm using Sonar Platinum, JS4 and EZD2. Trying to get a midi track into JS4, let the brain do it's thing, then on to EZD2.
In Sonar I've got JS4 and EZD2 loaded as Softsynths. EZD2's input is set to JS4 on ch16. EZD2 is set to receive on ch16, and a KIT is loaded.
In JS4 KIT I've loaded the MIDI Out Template. MIXER is set to MIDI Only. Style is set to IMPORT and MIDI GROOVE pointed at the MIDI track I want to use. Player is default. In OPTIONS the MIDI Channels are set to ch16. JAM MODE set to NORMAL JAM.
When I start the SONAR transport, the BAR EDITOR bumps along like its doing it's thing, no sound comes from JS4, but nothing is getting to EZD2.
This feels like I'm missing something simple, but I'm stumped.
Anybody have any ideas?
Oh, yeah - the MIDI track I'm using sounds great directly in EZD2, but played in JS4 sounds nothing like it. It's imported as EZD2 format. |

| Under Options> General Options in JS4 do you have "Enable MIDI Output" activated? |

Does the green MIDI out light in JS4 light up when it is playing? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I can't check this out tonight but will look into it tomorrow if no one responds. I also use Reaper so I'm not going to be any help where Sonar is concerned. |

As an orphaned Sonar user, I've just DL'd Reaper, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. If you can make this work in Reaper, that would be motivation for me to get my butt in gear and start learning yet another DAW.
I also have Ableton Live, which I tried this in with the same lack of success. |

| It works, I just tried it with JS4 driving EZD2 on my Surface in Reaper. It is not hard to set up but explaining it to someone not familiar with Reaper will be the hard part. I would suggest watching at least the first 3 videos at https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php to familiarize yourself with the layout and terminology. They have a lot of excellent Kenny Gioia videos there that cover Reaper very thoroughly. I'll try to answer any questions you have. |

The MIDI output channel for sounds in JS4 is set in the kit editor. The MIDI channels in the OPTIONS page are for other purposes. Please go to KIT in JS4 and open the kit menu. Choose Send To MIDI Channel -> Channel #16 and see if it works now. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

OK, now we're getting somewhere!
Next problem: No matter which format (mapping) I use to import the midi file, it sounds nothing like the actual groove. Not even remotely. The grooves come from Groove Monkee, in EZD2 format. |

Maybe we have a bad mapping there. I'll check that out. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
