First I'd like to say that i'm super impressed with Jamstix. I have Tracktion 2. What I do is set the tempos for my song Load the jamstix rhythms that I like (keyword jam) and play my guitar and record it. Then I listen to the recorded guitar along with the Jamstix and adjust the velocity slider for the mellow parts etc.... My question is how do I route Jamstix in Tracktion 2 so I can record the drums as a midi file while I'm adjusting velocity etc. That way if i get the perfect drum track it will preserved. A screenshot might do the trick. Any help would be terrific. Thanks Tim

You should use a MIDI automation envelope on the 'Velocity' parameter of Jamstix instead of manually moving the velocity slider.

Hey Ralph, I don't really record live. I have acoustic passages in various sections and need to adjust the jamstix velocity after the fact. I'm still trying to learn tracktion 2 and just can't figure out how to use these two programs together. The routing seems confusing. And when I route jamstix to say, track two, I see the level meters on track two moving, but when I record there is nothing recorded. And as far as track input goes, I've tried different combinations and just can't figure it out. I can hear the drumming, but I don't know where to send it. If anybody has a tracktion 2/jamstix tutorial, I would be very grateful to see it.

You usually don't need to record the Jamstix audio output since it has a built-in arranger. When you're done with your song just bounce it all to a wave file.

The 'Velocity' automation envelope allows you to fine-tune velocity after the fact. Just click the A icon on the right end of the track Jamstix is on and select 'automatable parameter for this track', then 'jamstix' and then 'Velocity'. You can now shape this curve to provide the proper velocity at any given time of the song.

Hi Tim,

Have a look at Section 7.1 of the Tracktion User Guide (Recording and Editing Automation). I think if you read that section over you'll have a better idea of what Ralph is describing, and you'll find it much easier to accomplish varying the velocity throughout the drum track.

Ok, All of this worked perfectly. I've learned a lot already. Now, I'm using Jamstix with The original DFH and Battery1. My next question is how do I route the kick and snare to seperate tracks etc. in traction 2 so I could put reverb on just the snare etc.... When I load the DFH map into Jamstix the output options in Jamstix goes away. When Battery is the external vsti, the outputs for battery are locked into a stereo pair. When I load Battery as a seperate plugin after Jamstix, I have several outputs in Battery, but no sound. I'm so confused Sad . If you could solve this problem for me I would be elated. Tim

Battery only runs in stereo mode within Jamstix and we have no idea why at this point. Your solution is using a rack in T2. Simply add Jamstix and Battery to a rack and route MIDI from rack input to Jamstix and then to Battery. Connect the Battery outputs as desired to the rack outputs. Now you can assign individual tracks to the rack outputs.

In order to save memory we recommend using the 'MIDI-Out Only' mode in Jamstix in a rack with another VSTi so Jamstix only drives the MIDI output.
