|
|
Hi - I picked up EZDrummer 2 over the weekend, and was looking at mapping JS3's output to it.
I see a Drum style called Toontracks is in JS3, but I couldn't figure out how to get an output showing in Cubase's JS VSTi channels ( ), even after finding the three places in the manual where EZDrummer was mentioned.
I moved on after that to try to manually map the JS kit to the Toontrack kit. My main question here is that some of EZD kits have more articulations than the JS. One example is the hat - though there are a lot of articulations listed, some of them are "grayed out" and not assigned a key. I'm guessing that some other JS kits might have those articulations, but to go looking for various JS kits to find matching # of articulations seems like more work than is probably necessary.
How do you guys match between JS and other kits when the other kits have more articulations on a 3rd party kit?
Maybe the best answer is in getting the "Toontrack" kit up and running?
Thanks for any help/pointers!
(PS, this thread is the opposite of one I posted some time ago, where the opposite was true - JS had more articulations than the 3rd party VSTi:
http://rayzoon2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7303&highlight= )
Finally, a FR if possible please: When an articulation in JS3 is already assigned (as indicated by the *), it would be very helpful if it also told us where that articulation is assigned (kind of like Cubase lets you know if a key command is already assigned, and to which other command).
Thanks again! _________________ Alexis

Please: If anyone can point me to a resource to help me have my JS3 music get played in another VSTi drum kit (EZDrummer 2, in this case), I would greatly appreciate it.
Scouring the internet, the best I could find are these two vids (Cubase-centric), is this the best way to do it?

I don't have jamstix yet so i'm not entirely sure myself.
Maybe this will help a bit? It's based on jamstix 2 but it should be the same or close enough.

Thanks, Justus!
Unfortunately, it doesn't address the thing that has me stumped - getting the two drum programs to talk to each other correctly when they have different key assignments. For example, a snare played in Jamstix might come out as a room in EZDrummer 2.
I appreciate your help though, thank you! _________________ Alexis

Hi Alexis,
Did you correctly load the corresponding key mapping kit for EZDrummer inside of Jamstix?

I'm actually doing it a different way - building a drum map in Cubase that translates between the two programs. I tell the Cubase drum map what a G# note means coming from Jamstix ("Tom" for example), and I also tell it how to route it to EZD2's Tom.
That's they way (I think) it's supposed to work ... more to come!
If anyone thinks there is a better way to do that, please let me know. Is it better just to do what you wrote, load the corresponding key mapping for EZD2 inside Jamstix?
Some related questions I have:
1) How are people who do that handling the situation where there are more articulations in EZD2 available than there are articulation slots in Jamstix?
2) One of the fields in Cubase's drum map is "Quantize" value for each note. I would like to preserve Jamstix's off beat capabilities (that's one of its best features, right?), and there is no "Quantize Off" option.
Should I just put it to the smallest value possible (1/128)?
Thanks - _________________ Alexis

I abandoned the idea of using Cubase's Drum Map. It was way too hard to make sure there weren't any multiple assignments, mainly because the columns couldn't be sorted. So if I wanted to make sure that "C-3" was not in use already (as a double check of the work I did), I would have to scroll up and down the entire keyboard looking for that one entry. Way to easy to make a mistake, I decided, and too painful.
I've got JS routing to EZD2 now, I believe, having created and saved a JS drum map whose outputs have been changed to match the inputs expected by EZD2.
I'm wondering if someone could please offer some advice at this point with a problem I've having. The EZD2 "Nashville" kit has several (many) articulations that are not assigned in my JS kit of choice (Classic XL). It's a bummer, because when I listened to them in EZD2 those sounds were quite nice. These were things like snare rimshot (or was it sidestick), an extra articulation or two on the ride, many extra articulations on the hat (even though somewhere in JS I ticked the option for many hat articulations), and others.
So my question is: what is the best way to try to build a JS kit that matches all the articulations in my EZD2 kit? Using the Hats for example - do I need to somehow 1 at a time audition all the hats in JS to see if any of them have enough articulations to match EZD2?
Thanks for any advice and perspective on this! _________________ Alexis
