Does "incorrect tom notes" refer to the fact that when using midi export one tom hit can be exceptionally long (like, 300+ quarter notes in some cases)?

Yes, it does.

The comment is this: if the answer to my question is yes, I feel the fix should be an official release and not in a beta labeled "use at your own risk". Your responsiveness to your user base is unsurpassed, both where support and feature requests are concerned, but I think bug fixes should be provided in official updates and you should just use betas to test new features.

We release bug fixes and enhancements periodically and at IMHO high frequency:

4/4 - Jamstix 1.02
4/18 - Jamstix 1.1
5/10 - Jamstix 1.2
8/5 - Jamstix 1.3

Now, bug fixes need beta testing just like everything else. That's why we put a fix out quickly in the next beta and once fixes and enhancements are consolidated we release the official update. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to use any of our betas these days. Most of our fixes and enhancements are of isolated and contained nature with little chance of systemic side effects.

By the way, thanks for your very kind words about JS!

That has got to be the understatement of all time Laughing Laughing

Hewitt, give the betas a chance man! You know there is no way Ralph will let you down. And, it does help him sort through release issues when more folks are out there working with the betas.

By the way Ralph, are you OK? I haven't seen a beta release for nearly a week! Razz

Aha! The encouragement I sought... Very Happy Which leads to another question: Can one just use the latest beta to get all the enhancements? Or does each one need to be dl'd and installed? It's a seperate install from 1.3, correct? Or do I need to install over 1.3?

As for the release schedule, I was well aware of that and it factored into my statement that the way you do things is what other devs should aspire to! Awesome as always. Very Happy

A beta is always just an updated jamstix.dll (with rare exceptions). You can simply install Jamstix 1.3 and then use any X5 beta DLL. No need to stay chronological etc.

ResetToSilence=0

  • Snare Accents=10%
  • Tom Accents=10%
  • Normal Cymbal Probability=8%
  • Powerplay Cymbal Probability=16%

If ResetToSilence=1 then all these values are 0%

Hey Ralph,

Could you tell me how to access the "ResetToSilence" function in X5-4? I can't seem to find this in Jamstix. Thanks!

My guess would be to add a line to jamstix.ini (in the jamstix folder) using your favourite text editor. Did you try that?

Ralph, I downloaded X5-4 and now Jamstix doesn't load any samples on startup... I loaded in Sampletank 2 and that worked fine. What do I need to do to get Jamstix to load its own samples on startup?

Which host is that? We're messing with the load sequence because of Live 5.

It's Fl Studio 5.

ps - Thanks for implementing my request! It has been useful already.

Hewitt, please see if this Build fixes the FL5 problem:

No luck with that build (X5-5).

Ralph,

Hmm. I've been messing around with FL5 DXi'ed into SONAR as an alternative to using DirectiXer as the VST wrapper, but I've also played with it standalone, and it's not having any problem loading in the JamStix samples with X5-4. I wonder if the problem here could be that "MIDI Out Only" got turned on inadverently?

By the way, why is it that "MIDI Out Only" seems to be a global setting? It seems it would be more useful for that setting to be saved with the project, since someone might like to be able to use it both ways in various situations, and have each project reload in the correct mode.

By the way, FL5 as a DXi is proving to be very useful, solving all of the problems I've encountered trying to use JamStix/BFD with DirectiXer. First of all, it handles the BFD Ultra outputs correctly. Then, you can load JamStix in there separately and use the MIDI Out mode completely within FL5 with perfect timing, also still allowing MIDI in from a manual drum track in SONAR, if desired. Then you can set up an entire set of drum effects processing within FL5's mixer, and just output the whole thing into SONAR as two track stereo. This allows you to save out FL5 projects as complete drum setups for JamStix, BFD and all the effects. The final icing on the cake, is that you can then freeze and unfreeze the whole shebang as a single track in SONAR in one step.

Two things to watch out for if you try using FL5 for this purpose: In order to automate JamStix from a SONAR track while its inside FL5, you need to use FL5's CC mappings to map to JamStix automation parameters. Also, FL5 does not have PDC, so you have to be careful whether the effects you use in processing the drums introduce latency.

Bill
