Regarding the new interface, seeing posts of it doesn't do anything to excite me for the new version. It's not that I think it looks bad, but when that is the teaser posted, it gives the impression that this is what Ralph has spent all his time working on to the exclusion of features I might consider more useful.

I am sure that Ralph has been working on a lot of ways to make the product more flexible and intuitive and add in a bunch of the drummers everyone's been clamoring for. This teaser just does not give that impression.

Still working through internal Beta, dealing with issues found. As soon as we can exclude showstoppers, it will go private Beta and then public. There are TONS of changes in JS4, not just workflow improvements but also game changers like part linking. I think it will be worth the wait.

I have a question. Will it support ramping tempo?
if I recall right JS3 only supports the block tempo, but sometimes it's nice to mess around with fluid tempo.

You can ramp tempo in the host with JS3 and it will follow properly. Let me know if I misunderstood you.

Okay, it's been a few years since I tried that, tempo ramps work fine in Reaper, but as it seems, Studio 1, which I have been using lately doesn't have ramping tempos.

This might sound like nitpicking, but a few of the modern drum sample libraries include snare samples for both left/right-hands. I'm not sure how much difference it would make sound wise when playing a snare fill but is this something you have considered to implement, Ralph?

I'm eagerly awaiting how this software is progressing, because it's the only one with the most creative possibilities in the rhytmic sense.

Jamstix 3 already has this concept but we call it 'Center' and 'Offset' instead of left & right. The reason is that 'left' and 'right' actually sound identical on a real drum. It's rather the sound difference that happens when a snare is hit center (less ring, deeper) and off-center (more ring, less deep). The A.I. in Jamstix thinks like a real drummer in that, when a roll-like snare pattern is to be played, a drummer would hit left and right off-center whereas during a normal pattern, the snare is hit on-center. You can see in the bar editor how Jamstix assigns 'center' and 'offset' based on this. Please note that only the Jamstix 3 kit sound were recorded this way so you won't notice the effect audibly with other kit sounds in JS3. If you have a library with L/R samples, try mapping its standard sound to 'center' and either L or R sample to 'offset'.

I ended up getting a new Max for Live plug in called Beetseeker for Ableton Live 9.6.It's great if you want to audio Jam live with jamstix. For me.Guitar.I put it in my audio track.Play guitar, and it reads my tempo, thus changing the BPM in Ableton live as i go.It certainly makes a huge difference to the feel.I used Carmine, with fat drums.Neato groove. So great to be playing and hearing what you want to hear coming from the drums at the same time!Just thought this might be worth passing on Smile

Time sig range has been extended to 9/4 (18/Cool but I cannot promise you x/16 support in the initial JS4 release. It's definitely something that's on the list, though.

Ralph- Not sure if you saw the announcement, but it appears they have launched a new device type (which I can only assume will be a part of the SDK for RE devices) that allows for midi output. I just wanted to bring that to your attention in case there ever might be a development opportunity there for a Jamstix rack device

Great stuff!

How about 11/4? Razz I think I even saw 15/4 in yet another Pain Of Salvation song (Nihil Morari)... but POS sure loves their x/16 timesigs on earlier albums. Smile

In fact, let me phrase this question in a different way. What is the problem in supporting an arbitrary numerator in a time sig for Jamstix? I might be missing a point here, though, but sometimes 10/4 is not as simle as two 5/4 bars together, it would depend on accents and where downbeats are... right?

The main limiter is the bar editor size and the way the real-time brain interacts with it. In-bar accents/beat strengths can, depending on the style, be dealt with using groove weights.
