|
|
I use jamstix 3.6.5 in Reaper.
I have a small midi item programmed manually,
and in Jamstix I'm in drum module mode, and loaded one drumkit.
When playing my midi file, each time Jamstix plays it a bit different.
Why is this? Drum module mode is not jam mode,
so I'd suppose Jamstix should play exactly the same drumhits from my midi item.
If someone knows the reason, please let me know. |

It was a midi dragged out from jamstix song editor so I think there's no point to send it to you.
In Reaper In Normal Jam mode, I used CTRL + drag to move one bar of the song editor to a track in Reaper, then switched to Drum module mode.
I put the exported bar in the track where Jamstix was.
I played back the bar looped in reaper, and noticed, in some occasion, some hits disappeared randomly.
Maybe it is because the exported jamstix track contains some chance % values if there's a hit or not ? |

MIDI from the host should play back identically in Jamstix. That's why I'd love to see the MIDI clip in the host to replicate this here. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

You noted this was a manually created MIDI file then you say it was created by dragging the file from Jamstix. Then the person who actually created Jamstix asks for the MIDI file and you say there is no point.
Why don't let the person who can actually help you make that decision? |

One thing is interesting: I'm in drum module mode, and selected "no cymbal variations" but after pressing the same key (E3) several times, I hear the cymbal varies. I play with the "Come Closer" kit from the "Drum and bass" group. I hit E3 note multiple times.....
aND IT'S NOT BECAUSE I HIT THE NOTE WITH DIFFERENT VELOCITY,
in the midi clip in Reaper, the velocities are the same.
Ok, here's the reaper project:

I loaded your project. yes the CHINA 16" JS cymbal sample varies - but to me it sounds like a random china cymbal hit from the same cymbal samples.
Are you mis-understanding what 'no variations' means?
I think it means that only the same cymbal instrument is used for the hit - whereas variations means other cymbal samples (e.g. crash 1, ride etc.) would be hit for the same MIDI note. mainly used for E-kits?
oh, and you dont need to shout
keys. |

I consider this as a bug,
because in drum module mode, I checked "no cymbal variations" option,
therefore there should be no cymbal variation.
And anywway, at the end, when I create anything in Jamstix, or in any other software,
I would like it to be reproduceable 100% .
I'd like it to be exactly what I programmed, no slight variations allowed.
When people make music on computers, they want to create one concrete thing...
I hope others can understand, that it's not a special requirement.
Otherwise, if I simply don't know the way how should I setup jamstix to sound the same at each replay, please share this hidden knowledge with me |

I've checked your project. It is using the same cymbal piece over and over and the variation of sound you here is the round-robin logic in the velocity layer that cycles samples to avoid machine-gunning. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi I think you might be looking at it the wrong way.
Jamstix USP is that it tries to sound like a real drummer and one of the ways it does that is to play multiple samples for each instrument (e.g. crash cymbal1) to actually avoid the repetitive nature of single-shot samples.
The same instrument is being hit but a slightly different sample is being played each time. Just like it would be on a real world drum kit.
If you really do want the same sample to be played for every hit then you could route the midi out of JS to a simple drum module that only has single samples. |
