Hello All,

I Just purchased JS3 for use in Logic Pro X on Macbook pro retina w 16GB Memory. I'm new to both Logic and Jamstix, so please forgive my ignorance here.

Has anyone been able to use JS3 to trigger the Apple Drum Kits that come with Logic Pro X either via Drummer or Drum Kit Designer?

I'm pretty sure the way to do it is to use the JS3 "Midi Only" feature, but I am unclear as to how the midi data that is output by jamstix is routed to the channel strip containing the Apple Drum Kits.

You need to use the Apple Audio Midi tool to create an IAC bus called: "JAMSTIX". If you have an IAC port present and active with that name, JS3 will send all midi to that port.

Then you have to use the Logic environment perhaps to route that midi to the right instrument track holding the Logic drum designer. There are a few different ways to do that, and it gets a little weird sometimes, but its doable several different ways, including just selecting the track with drum designer in it (which routes all incoming midi including from the jAMSTIX IAC bus, over to that track).

There are some other threads about logic on this forum with a lot of details about the environment, not always smooth sailing...but it does work.

Another easier way, if you can justify the price, is to get BlueCatAudio's patchwork plugin. You can host the VST version of jamstix inside that plugin as an MFX plugin and put it into the midi fx slot of the logic track, followed by drum designer in the instrument slot..and it totally works. However, JS3 has some weird gui issues when used inside patchworks. It will work, but you will get really tired of clicking on the screen to bring the gui back.

You will also need to either create a drum map for logic's drum designer or hope that the GM kit perhaps has the same or similar drum map. There are many posts on this forum about how to create a drum map, or change an existing one, plus the docs.

Then yes, set the JS3 mixer to midi only. Load the kit as Keys only, that has the right drum map or use the load key map feature.

It will definitely work.

I set up the IAC Bus as you instructed and now Jamstix drives the drum designer kit!
