I downloaded the Jamstix3_setup.exe file in my downloads page thinking it was an update to the 3.61 beta I have installed. However when I tried to install it the installer complains that it can't read the source file "c:\jamstix3\bin\jamstix3.d64"

I checked the file system and the file exists. I even tried to run the installer as admin and it failed to run.

I'm not sure if I need to install this update or not.

Guidance please.

That is really odd. Please delete the file, re-download the installer and run it again.

That worked. I wonder though if perhaps the file was locked since I had been using JS before I tried to install the update.

I had rebooted the computer and ran the newly downloaded installer before running anything else.

JS displays the version as 3.6.5.

I also noticed that the name of the installer is Jamstix3_setup.exe wile in the past you have used a different convention when naming the files like Jamstix365_setup.exe

This could prove confusing to those of us who keep the previous versions if we need to reload the computer or do a clean install for some reason.

Thanks for the help it seems to be running pretty well.

Hi Ralph,

I have a couple questions, but first let me say that I am excited that JS4 is coming soon! Looking forward to it.

Okay, questions for you:

1) Is there a way to limit the max velocity? Sometimes, the drummer gets a little over-excited with the snare hits during fills and it is far too dynamic. Is there a way to limit this, so the drummer simply cannot hit at 127, but rather at a max of whatever number the user enters (e.g. 110)? Please consider this as a feature request if it is not currently possible - a field in the options panel would be great.

2) Is the style preview bug that we have discussed a few times before been fixed in JS4? I am currently on 3.6.1 x64. Perhaps using this feature is something that not many users use, but it is pretty critical to my workflow. Jamstix is an order of magnitude less productive for me with this not working correctly.

Thanks!

Regarding your first question, you can specify the exact shape of the dynamics curve for every piece in the kit. Just go to the Kit section and look near the bottom right. It will be a small window with a rainbow shaped curve in it.

Thanks Chris. For all these years, I had no idea what that rainbow control was for. Even after looking at the manual, it wasn't very clear to me. Neat. So I can just 'draw away' the upper part of the 'velocity map' to limit the velocity of the most intense hits.

Still wish I could just limit it to a particular velocity instead of guessing what velocity my drawing is translating to, but this will do. This reminds me of a pet peeve I have with the song editor velocity control. I turn it and it shows me a percentage. I mouse over the drum hit in the grid and it shows me the midi velocity. I constantly have to move my mouse back and forth to see what it is doing. I don't want percent, I want midi velocity.

Yeah, so-called 'first world problems' I guess.

Life is good, Jamstix is still my most valued piece of software despite all the bugs and quirks. I wouldn't want to make music without it.

Thanks again! I would still like to just set a limit, but I can live with this.

Cheers.

Hi

Have you tried tweaking the Power Level and Dyn (Minimum Power) options?

I do not think you can put in an exact Max Velocity for any particular piece of the kit as the Power Level affects the overall kit and makes decisions like switching Hi Hat to Ride based on the Power Level.

Maybe there is a way to convert the percentage that the Power Level is set to Velocity?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I have tried these options but they don't prevent the drummer from getting really excited and hitting at maximum velocity during fills here and there. That being said, however, perhaps I could set the minimum power high enough that the dynamic range is reduced, which might make those stand out less though, eh?

Nice one.

Cannot hurt to try. Reducing the Dynamic range just might do the trick.

Jamstix is stereo-only in PT. This will be fixed in a future update.
