Where do I specify a midi controller so I can use 'Live loop' feature?

I am trying to connect a line 6 FBV express MKII pedal connected to my PC with USB cable and shows up correctly in device manager.

I'm hoping to route this to jamstix so i can trigger different song sections with my foot while I play Guitar.

Thanks

Please select your controller as the MIDI input for the Jamstix track in REAPER.

OK, I did that and I can control the transport in Reaper with my foot controller now, but still cannot control Jamstix. My FBV midi pedal is capable of sending: bank changes, program changes, midi CC, MMC.

Do not know what to select to send to jamastix . I want to assign a pedal to verse, a pedal to chorus, etc......

see pic

Thanks

The circle on the left is drawn around the midi note names that correspond to the respective part. So, you need to get your pedal board set up to send note on values. You can change the note value assigned to each part, fwiw.

I wonder if you have your pedal board set up as a control surface in reaper rather than a midi device. It can only be one, and I'm thinking that to send note values it needs to be a midi device.

I just googled the manual for your board. Looks like you can't send note on values with it. Maybe jamstix can learn a cc value? Click on the note name in the TRG column and try to get it to learn by pressing one of pedals. Worth a shot.

OK, thanks for the info. I will give it a try.
Can you recommend a small midi foot controller that you know will work with Jamstix?

Thanks

It's not physically small but the Behringer FCB-1010 works great and is IMO one of the most versatile controllers there is. It's really cheap too IMO for it's capabilities. Buy a new one though there are some older versions that had some firmware glitches. There are also PC based programmers available for free for it which make the job much less tedious. That would be my biggest complaint that programming the unit is pretty confusing and time consuming using the interface. Sweetwater has them for $149.

I have a FCB1010 (with UNO chip) but never tried it with JS.

Do you have a sysex file or tutorial or video you are aware exist for a nice setting or how-to recommendation ?

I'm all ears and eyes. Wink

Hi Dali_S, No I don't have a sysex file from my unit handy but setting it up is very easy with the PC Editor from Mountain Systems. My Sysex probably would not help you since I'm controlling a lot of different gear with my 1010 and would probably just add to your learning curve.

Here's the url for the Editor: http://host.mtnsys.com:81/faq-fcb/PCEditorBeta.htm

The interface looks just like the FCB1010 so it's easy to navigate IMO. I actually find the spreadsheet page faster myself but what ever works for you. You can run the Editor without your 1010 hooked up also to experiment.
All you need to do is assign an individual midi note to each of the preset pedals (1-10) that matches the note assigned to your song parts in Jamstix. You can do this for all 10 banks so you could control up to 100 different song parts. I loaded it up on my Surface running Windows 10 so I can confirm that it works with Win 10. It should be very easy to set up IMO but if you do have any problems just ask, I'd be glad to help.

That's a cool idea. I've had my eye on a 1010 for a while now, and I might just pull the trigger.
For now, I just use a small midi keyboard to trigger the parts. I very cleverly used note C to trigger the chorus, B for a bridge, and E for an ending. Note A is for verse - I figure it's sort of an upside down V. Very Happy

I already paid for the the FCB Control Center :
http://www.lg-fcb.com/lgfcbcc_scr.php

But only did stuff related to Reaper + Guitar Rig 5 and the Frippertronic VST http://www.kvraudio.com/product/elottronix_by_elogoxa . Wink

I will give a go for experimenting JS & FCB1010 !

A_zimuth, do you have the UNO chip ? just curious...

No I don't because I use Bome's Midi Translator for what the stock firmware can't handle. That's not much though, the stock firmware handles probably 95% of what I do perfectly.

@4_johnny, Your screenshot of the Line 6 controller shows it can send program change messages and Jamstix can respond to them according to the manual. See the user manual section covering Liveloops on pg. 54.
