Dewdman, you certainly have done thorough testing and research and reporting on this. Thanks for that.

I agree 100% that if a MIDI FX version would work as expected, and if it really is as little effort as you say (I have heard the same thing from some developers) that it's a no-brainer that Ralph should do it. And sooner rather than later.

However, due to lack of Ralph's frequent involvement in most of these forums as of late, I'm starting to fear the worst for Jamstix overall. That's another discussion for another thread though.

He's a small shop, not a big deal. I might have his email address here somewhere and may send him something. Anyway MFX would be better but now that we've worked through the issues I think the current setup is usable, just not entirely ideal.

well I have to eat my hat one more time. It turns out that the MFX slot in Logic is AFTER the track recording.

In other words...midi comes into Logic...Logic optionally records it to a track. After that, the midi is sent on to the MIDIFX and eventually to a software instrument. So...basically...while you don't have to have incoming midi for the MIDIFX per say...it happens AFTER the track-recording stage...so while you can put Jamstix into Patchworks and have a single track playing Jamstix and SSD4 together.....you can't arm the track and record it because the MIDIFX slot is AFTER the track record stage.

That's still ok...at least its sample accurate sync'd jamstix drums happening... can just drag and drop the parts to the track when you're ready. But just wanted to clarify that..

Another option for anyone that wants to throw down the money for BlueCatAudio's Patchworks..though kind of pricey...but it works well in the demo:

You can use the normal AU instrument version of Patchworks (not MFX), put BOTH jamstix and SSD4 inside of Patchworks as a self contained parallel setup and that also works very well, without IAC, perfect sync.

The way Patchworks works, you can route the midi out from Jamstix into SSD4, even though the are in parallel within Patchworks. Then you can have audio coming from either Jamstix or SSD4 or both including separate audio outs, etc.

That works extremely well actually, except for the GUI bug with Jamstix in there...and the price of Patchworks is quite high for what it does honestly. Though this is exactly the same kind thing it appears to be good at. Most likely could accomplish similar things with Plogue Bidgule, ImageLine's free modular router, DDMF, maybe some others...which I will investigate..
