Sorry ran out of space - "Subjective opinions requested from experienced users re: 3rd party drum VSTi's".

I noticed on the one 3rd party VSTi I looked at (Groove Agent SE4) that there were many articulations missing that Jamstix has assigned to specific MIDI keys. Most obvious is Jamstix's 7 (wow, seven!) articulations for snare. But there are others, like two articulations for Toms, etc.

If you are an experienced user, can you please share a word or two whether you think the trade-off between losing Jamstix's articulations in a 3rd party VSTi in order to get better (or at least more "production-ready") sounds is a good one?

Or, do you feel one of Jamstix's major strengths is the access it gives its drummers to the many articulations, and have decided to work on producing its internal sounds rather than go to a 3rd party VSTi?

Thanks much in advance for your thoughts! Very Happy

I used Addictive Drums prior to Jamstix. I still like the sound of Addictive Drums, but I believe the extra articulations in JS outweigh any difference in sound. And I'm not saying that AD sounds better than JS either. Just different.

Another reason for me to use the JS kits is that I never figured out how to preview the styles while routed to AD. I didn't try very hard, so it's possibly possible.

My subjective opinion is that it.....
(Wait for it)
It depends....(of course).
It depends on what is more important in each use case.
If your doing a jazz song then you want a clean sound with detailed articulation. If you want a more contemporary, yet still relatively clean sound like rock, country, and are able to put a little compression, EQ, and reverb on yourself, then Jamstix is probably better. If you are doing highly processed stuff like EDM, or house/remix type stuff then Jamstix may not be the best choice.
Honestly, only you can answer this question for yourself, Alexis.

Do you like the red one or the blue one......?

I typically use Addictive drums 2 metal pack for prog rock with MIKE as the drummer in Jamstix to get 'Mike Portnoy' hard hitting complicated grooves.
I use the JS drums for other stuff and jamcussion for the hand percussion.
I may swap out a few instruments (say snare and crashes) but I generally use a huge kit to get a large variety of sounds rather than the subtler nuances of a smaller kit - but thats just my taste and no reflection on the quality of the JS drums - which are really good.
