I've got EZD2 and a few EZX packs I'd like to use, but there are a few mappings that just don't appear to line up. For example, I've got the EZD2 base kit up and the small tom in EZD is triggering the left crash in EZD. So there's a few adjustments to be made...

It appears as though I can just remap the JS3 kit piece by piece, one articulation at a time from the edit kit GUI and then just save that. But manually doing that piece by piece seems like a lot of work.

Is there a shortcut way to just edit/add a configuration file and then just have it picked up when you restart? Just curious if it's there and I'm missing something.

Running the Windows and OSX versions btw, but moving slowly and inexorably towards an all OSX existence so that would be priority.

Thanks in advance.

And maybe I'm missing something here. If I start out with the EZ Drummer mapping Tom 1/Center shows in the Show Mapping as D4. So I consulted the mapping for Tom 1/Center in the EZD Kit and it shows up as C2. However changing to C2 doesn't change it to the Tom. I only get that if I change it to C4, which is the same as it is mapped in the GM2 mapping. And there's an offset shown in Toontrack for the Offset as A#2 which I assume is Bb2 in the Jamstix GUI. Although that doesn't sound right either.

I'm wondering if if this is something I can even fix manually? At least from a consistent basis. If I pick C4 while in this, I do get a Tom/Center sound that triggers. But I was hoping there was at least some method to the madness with this.

Using this in Reaper. Is that what's causing the alignment issues?

The C2/C4 difference sounds like Yamaha vs. Roland convention. You can adjust Jamstix to use either in the OPTIONS.

You can speed up key editing by modifying or creating key maps in the data\kits folder of Jamstix using NOTEPAD. It's pretty self-explanatory but let me know if you need further help on that.

Thanks, switching to the Yamaha conventions appears to have done the trick. Many thanks. Since that was my blocker I'll try creating some customized maps for my EFX kits.

Ignorant question, just starting to learn about drum mappings, I hope this isn't too much of a high jack ... I notice that the EZ Drummer kit is much smaller than the Standard Rock Kit in Jamstix. That is surprising to me, as I've read a lot of great things about EZ Drummer. Is it pretty good to assume that the "missing" drums in EZ Drummer aren't really missed then, in terms of creating a great sound?

And a second question might be - is it possible to map all the drums and their articulations of the Standard Rock Kit in Jamstix to unique ones in EZ Drummer?

Thanks -

Checking back after a couple of days ... is there a location somewhere on the rayzoon pages with a mapping of JS3 to EZDrummer 2? I'm thinking of trialling EZDrummer 2, but don't want to start the timed trial until I have everything set up from the Jamstix side first.

If there isn't a location with a JS3-EZDrummer 2 keymap, can someone explain in really simple terms how to modify the keymap for the existing "EZDrummer" kit?

[EDIT: BTW, that JS kit ("EZDrummer") seems so small (in terms of # of drums) compared to many others included in JS ... not sure I understand why, or the implications of that. Is it possible to map a larger kit, like Standard Rock or Latin Kit XL, accurately to EZDrummer 2? ...]

Thanks -

Here's what I just did. Assuming here that you're talking about the EZ2 Basic Kit. I used the Rock! setting in EZ2.

It didn't line up one to one, although after changing to the Yamaha convention mentioned above it was close. So what I did was first click the padlock icon at the left of the button bar on the right hand side, then remove all the kit pieces and start from scratch - Kick, HH, Snare, Toms 2-4, Crash 1-3, Ride. Right mouse button context menu brings up the Add to Kit option. Select that, and then pick one of the pieces. The arrow on the right brings up another menu to select the size. Since you're driving EZDrummer just select MIDI only.

As you add the pieces you should go over to the EZD kit display and for each piece you're adding in JS, check the EZD settings by selecting the arrow in the front of each EZD kit display. In the lower right corner there will be a button called Details. Select that and you'll see the MIDI code. Make sure the JS code is set to the same value for each of the positions, i.e., center, offset, rimshot, sidestick, etc. When you select the drum in the JS Kit menu you should see Midi Output Only above. Clicking in the Articulation box that should be All by default should let you select the different kinds of hits. Each of those will have a unique mapping. If it doesn't match or isn't there go to the Keymap field and select the one corresponding to the EZ2 piece.

When you're done and you've verified all of them just relock by selecting the padlock again. Then click Save and add it to the Toontrack folder under kits. I saved mine as EZ2 Basic Rock so it corresponds to the kit it parallels. There are different kits but if all the drums are the same and have the same mappings you should only have to do it once.

That's it in a nutshell. It's all stream of consciousness so I may have left something out. If so, let me know and I can check. Not sure what platform you are on, but the kit files for the Mac version are stored in:
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Jamstix3/data/kits
It's hidden so you need to make it visible to get to it. Not sure about the Windows location.

Thank you, reggae_greggae! I'd gotten the general outline of how to do it kind of prepared, but your fantastic level of detail is much appreciated ... odds are you've saved me hours of work/frustration/troubleshooting!

Thanks again!

Well, you haven't tried it yet. Wink Hopefully that works when you give it a whirl. Every time I've ever asked a question here I've gotten help. I feel kind of obligated to jump in if I have an answer.
