|
|
Growing interest in all EDM styles. What are JS3 Users finding as useful selections of Drummers and Kits to sound 'current' ??
I also use Stylus RMX and wonder if there are now more JS3 Users who use both software and can describe best MIDI transfer method to play JS3 Songs into Stylus Kits/Multis.
Regards,

I added the Stylus RMX comment originally in case that would stimulate some possible EDM solutions by using JS3 and Stylus together.
I will continue to work at this, but still hope someone can advise the best interaction between these two softwares. Right now, Kits are not the issue for me, but how to get Stylus RMX (AND some new Omisphere2) EDM patterns into JS3 to build EDM Songs ????? ..... then Output MIDI to DAW (Reaper) to incorporate with other Instrument VSTi.
Thanks,

I hope this post is not as naïve as it might seem. I realize most EDM is typified by a single beat, but Laurent Veronnez (Airwave) has done many interesting Patches and Multis on his new PlugInGuru Airwave V1 Patch Collection for Omnisphere 2.
He creates his Air Kicks and other drum parts, but I would like to try some things in JS3 .... even in my 'Keyboardist-drum ignorance'.
If this is still nonsensical to you capable JS drummers, just be blunt and I will move along

Hi tf_b,
I'm not knowledgeable about EDM at all so excuse me if I'm incorrect in my assumptions, I'm not trying to be snarky. Isn't EDM pretty much the antithesis of what Jamstix is all about? EDM is very mechanical, machine driven beats whereas JS is all about (except for the drummer model Machine) realistically composing human "played" sounding tracks? I realize this doesn't answer your OP but am just curious whether what I said is valid or if I'm way off base here. |

Your post is fine, and this is my blank area to understand.
With the many genre in EDM and many variations within the genre, I wondered if I could learn and innovate within JS3 even as a keyboardist enjoying Omnisphere2 and its expanded focus on EDM.
As I mentioned before, Laurent Veronnez specializes in Trance and Progressive House and is quite well known in those genres. Even so, he has offered large new variations in Kicks and Snares and Hi Hats, etc. in his Multis and for Users to place in their Multis. This is what I was hoping to gain by bringing in these MIDI Loops and Grooves to JS3.
You are likely spot-on in your puzzling about my seemingly paradoxical post.
Take care,

| Well I'm about on my 10th beer right now so my advice might be questionable but why not just uncheck "enable limb control" in options to prevent any Humanizing and try out different drummers. That should produce some interesting drum machine like grooves especially if you've got Jamcussion. |

Unchecking "enable limb control" should have entered my thoughts as one possibility, but didn't. I want to use JS3 Kits but clearly did not want much Player variation. With Kick so dominant in EDM, this does not seem too much of an issue.
I'm cool for a bit and will continue experimenting.

Hmm. This just my musing, but why limit Jamstix to drums? You can create a custom kit to drive a synth, and maybe use a combination of sophistica and linear to create rhytmic phrases and bass lines. The humanization aspect would lend to some interesting patterns.
Just a thought |

A bit beyond my current JS3 comfort zone, but made a note and will give this a try soon.
Appreciate the thought and need to commit more time and effort.

| There's an awful lot of electronic music which uses samples of 60s and 70s R&B and soul records. Perhaps if Jamstix had more drummers and styles along these lines ... |

| Actually this is exactly why I am also interested in Jamstix. What I want is electronic sounds married to a 4-4 beat but with constant variations in all other sounds ie as if made by a human. However I find most of the drummers in Jamstix too busy and too locked to a specific rock/funk style. However the percussion section of Jamstix is excellent and would add to techno quite bit. I just wish the drum section was more developed. |
