My apologies in advance for lengthy post here, everyone - appreciate any help you can offer.
I Finally upgraded my Jamstix installation to new release 3.6 last night, but I'm having some problems.
Prior to upgrade, I was running 3.6 beta 23 with no issues - worked flawlessly.
OS: Win 7 x64 SP1
RAM: 6GB
Processor: 2.2 GHz Dual Core
Host: 32-bit Ableton Live Lite (Older version: Live Lite 8.2.2)
Again, everything w/ Jamstix, host, and USB audio interface worked perfectly prior to install of "final" v3.6.
Issues are as follows:
1. CPU load (as displayed in Live) jumped to a ridiculous 300-700% as soon as Jamstix is loaded into an empty Live session. This is in a blank project, no kit or style loaded, no other audio, and nothing playing. Basically locked up the whole system and host. If I deactivate Jamstix in the track, CPU load drops back to zero.
2. After searching the forum, I edited the jamstix3.ini file: inserted the PriorityMode=1 line. This made no difference. Then I inserted the "ThreadMode=777" line. This made things better, but I'm still having some other issues.
3. Using edited .ini file, CPU load w/ Jamstix loaded into an empty Live session hovers around 8-10% w/ no playback. Before upgrading install, it would be around 2 or 3%.
4. Set up a simple Jamstix session: 8th rock style, Standard kit, Silent player, no fills. Begin playback and CPU load jumps to 27-38% w/ some audio crackle and dropouts. No other audio tracks, nothing else running in live. When using previous beta 23, this would register somewhere around 10-12% w/ clear clean audio.
5. Problem gets worse when loading a prior session w/ audio tracks. Simple playback of a Live session w/ 5 tracks and Jamstix causes audio drops, crackle, etc, and cpu load around 40%. Before upgrade, this would be around 25% load with clean audio, even when recording audio simultaneiously w/ Jamstix playback.
6. Finally - and this one is really wierd: In an effort to address the crackles and dropouts, I went to try and adjust my audio interface settings. I use a tempermental Tascam US144-mkII interface, and thought I would try adjusting latency/buffer settings to see if I could improve playback quality. With Jamstix 3.6 (edited .ini file) running in host, I went to "hardware setup" in Live and this caused IMMEDIATE freeze of my entire computer. Completely unresponsive. This behavior can be replicated (after system restart). When Jamstix is NOT loaded in Live, I have no problems adjusting audio properties - everything works as it should w/ Tascam driver. With Jamstix loaded, though, complete crash. Note that I have also tried bypassing the Tascam interface entirely using ASIO4ALL and outputting sound direct to comp audio jack. This did not alleviate Jamstix CPU/playback performance issues.
Any help on addressing these behaviors much appreciated! I may have to roll back to using prior beta23 or earlier v3.5 unless I can get this working. |
