Had to do a full OS re-install so I decided to start fresh with a new Windows 8.1 installation. Seemed to go fine up until I fired up Reaper and tried to load my Jamstix 3.6 installation.

I had specified C:\Program Files\Common Files\VSTPlugins\Jamstix first. No issues at all but when I went to look for the directory to add it to the Reaper path it wasn't there. I manually added it and then installed again. This time the DLL's showed up and I added the directories to the Reaper path. However when I brought up the Reaper dialog there was no Jamstix to be found. It will show me the audioM8.dll in the VST dialog and that will also show up if I pick the "show plugin source" option but it doesn't seem to be recognizing the jamstix3.dll.

So I installed into a directory outside Program Files - this time it created it OK but it still won't pick up the jamstix3.dll.

Tried running he jamstix.exe and reaper.exe as Administrator and nada. Not even a log. I'm going to go back after dinner and hack on it some more, but anyone have any ideas for other things to try.

Hi r_g,

Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributables. Windows 8 does not install them.

I'll give that a shot. But that is kind of odd, since it's working for me on a Windows 8 install. The difference is that this is a fresh 8.1.

Please install the redistributable as Azimuth suggested and, if that doesn't fix it, email me these files from Documents\Jamstix3:

rzdlog.txt
apslog.txt
error.txt

After reading Azimuth's postI went back and did another search for "redistributable" and found references to the missing msvcp100.dll. Checking my System32 directory showed it was on the Windows 8 machine but not the 81. Installed it and am good to go.

Didn't mean to appear skeptical, and I appreciate the suggestion. I was under the impression that a VC 2010 install usually involved a registry addition and my first check didn't show anything. But the DLL was there, so I guess that's not a hard and fast rule.

Thanks to you both for the weekend reply. Much appreciated.

Hi r_g,

I just had to do a "refresh" of my Surface Pro a few weeks ago and discovered this problem the hard way myself. It definitely freaked me out for a couple of minutes until I figured out WTH was going on. Glad that I could help.
