I plan to use Jamstix brain to operate my Addictive Drums in Sonar X3. Please recommend the product...
I am a guitarist trying to record some traditional rock type originals...not looking for very complicated drum styles or patterns.

If you are using it to drive AD and are creating standard rock type tracks, Jamstix 3 basic will do anything you need in my opinion.

I have found the mapping to AD to be pretty good, but JS has some articulations that AD does not. I also did not find a convenient way to preview different styles while driving AD. (Or previewing something- I can't remember exactly what the limitation was, but it was just a bit inconvenient). I eventually just started using the JS kits. I bought the Studio version during a sale a couple years ago, so there are lots more options than I need. I suspect even the basic package has plenty of great options. You might consider the upgrade to JS 3P, though. I find the percussion package to be very handy. Maybe not for every song, but for a little variation, intro or breakdown, perhaps.
