Well, I tried the new version and there are some things I noticed:

Whatever happened to the ghost snares? Right now it sounds like someone is flamming on the snares. This worked okay under 1.2

When recording the MIDI stream or rendering it to a MIDI-file, there are tom and snare hits that are several measures long! What's up with that?

Snare ghosts and export look fine here. Could you send us an example export file?

Well, the midi export is not such a biggie.. it's just weird, that's all. I am a bit bummed about the ghost snares, since I can't het them to sound the way as they were before. Having the drummer play ghosts in busy parts adds a certain flair that just fits in with my music, see.

Motormind, we have found issues in the export code and will release a new beta soon that should fix this.

"Latinize" and "Aggressive" are really interesting, and I hope the tip of what could be a fascinating and highly useful iceberg! A great tool gets even better! Smile

Ralph,

Presently I have the x4-27 demo beta installed. I have a couple of questions.

1. The first question concerns whether I installed the beta updates properly. I downloaded the compressed file then extracted. This contained new dll and also folders and files. The dll was easy to overwrite the existing dll. As far as the folders, I would open the "new" folder and compare the contents to the "existing" folder. If there was something new or different, I would then drag the new files into the existing folder. Other stuff like manuals, I would delete the old and replace with new. Was this the proper way to update the betas? The x4-27 seems to be working but I not 100% sure I've done everything properly.
2. I've downloaded the demo 1.3. This resulted in two files: the update and a prefetch file. What happens when I click the "update now" button. Does the update install automatically or will I also have to manually add update files? Also, when does it add something to my registry (or is something already there)? This would be something good to know if for some reason in the future I need to delete this itme from my registry (I don't know how to edit registry - makes me a little nervous).
3. Would it be better to do a fresh install of demo 1.3? How is this done? Do I remove the existing Jamstix program and then search to delete all other items?
4. Lastly, I noticed today your post about adding some missing elements. Is that second zip file for the demo 1.3 update?

Thanks for all the help, Ralph. You're doing an amazing job. Not only are you developing a groundbreaking approach to drum programming, I'm also learning things about using music software.

Sounds fine but all you really had to do was unzip the betas into your Jamstix folder.

The updater will locate your install via the registry and update it automatically. No manual labor needed unless you have a split installation.

Jamstix adds only one key to the registry. This is done by the installer but even if the key is lost, Jamstix maintains it every time it starts. No worries there.

I think you're good to go. Just make sure the about tab in Jamstix says "1.3".

No, it's only for people who downloaded the retail 1.3 until today.

Thanks for the detailed response!

I guess I really don't know how to "unzip the betas" into my jamstix folder. I know how to extract the betas though the wizard. I usually download the zipped beta to "my documents". The extracted file goes into the same "my documents" folder. How do I unzip the beta into my jamstix folder? The jamstix folder is located in the "Vstplugins" folder. Do I specify this location somewhere in the extract wizard? Much appeciated.

If you right-click on the ZIP in Windows Explorer you can choose 'Extract to' and select the Jamstix directory.

Thanks Ralph. I'll try that on the next beta.

The demo 1.3 file is presently located in the "My Documents" folder. Should I move it to the jamstix demo folder before I press the "update now" button. Or should I redownload the update into the jamstix demo folder before launching?

Lastly, what is a split installation? I'm unfamiliar with that term. Again, thanks alot!

The 1.3 update exe can be launched from anywhere.

Some users manually copy the jamstix.dll (plugin) to a different place after installation. Those users must manually update that copy after each update.

I've got X5-2 up and running smoothly. The demo 1.3 amazingly launched succesfully in about two seconds.

I noticed something interesting in a preexisting project I'm working on using jamstix (cubase le and presonus firepod). I press play in Cubase from bar 1. At a later point in the arrangement, I press stop twice in Cubase. Both Cubase and Jamstix arrangement reset to bar 1! This only happens in this project and not in any new project using Jamstix. Seems like this could be an interesting and useful added feature.

Also, I was wondering how many Rhythms and Accents files are in demo 1.3. Thanks....

See this thread for the numbers and a ZIP to complete your install if needed.

I saw that previous post. I thought the file numbers referred only to the full version of jamstix and not the demo version. I'll count my files and check. Thanks

In the demo version X5-2, I counted 184 Rhythms files and 146 Accents files.

The demo is supposed to have less rhythms and accents. However, we're not keeping you from using the ZIP on your demo install Wink
