Err...how can I say this after eulogising you great guys and the Cakewalk team so passionately?
No, it hasn't. It's just the same. From the Cakewalk post when they identidied the word length problem I just thought that must be it!
Never mind, of course you still deserve all the praise. It must be my machine or something, and anyway I CAN use Jamstix (I just have to load audioM8 first) so it's only a slight inconvenience.
BTW: I can load the VST version of Jamstix into Fruity Loops 5 without difficulty but closing it (I think I was closing it at the time) produced a Cakewalk wrapper error. So it's not entirely stable in Fruity Loops but FL is definitely blaming the CW VST Adapter.
Sorry about all this! _________________ ...ping? |

We'll keep at it but it looks like it has something to do with your specific configuration because we haven't heard of anyone else with this problem.
That's still Jamstix' fault but I mention it because it makes it harder to fix. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Having problems getting Jamstix to work:
Sonar 4 PE
Firewire Solo - WDM/KS drivers
Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz - 1 GB RAM
Installed Jamstix and DirectiXer - the install seems to have gone smoothly enough. I can see the GUI properly, I can see that it's responding to MIDI in/out as well as MTC. I can't hear any of the internal samples, and when I set it in freejam mode and press my master keys - the bars in the barprint register - but just keep getting taller and taller. It also seems to have completely locked Sonar up more than once...I've been futzing with it four almost three hours, ready to jam my fist through my monitor! |

Sounds as if you don't have Sonar running. Jamstix is always playing in synch with Sonar so you must have it playing or recording.
The simplest JS test is this:
- new Sonar project
- add Jamstix to synth rack
- click "Free Jam"
- arm any track in Sonar and hit 'Record'
After a few beats you will hear Jamstix start a groove _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Zauni - I was running it in Sonar...got up this morning and tried it again, it now seems to be reacting to MIDI (barprint and velocity slider are moving in time with the music) - but still getting no sound. Here's the seup on the Jamstix track(s):
MIDI
input echo - on
input - omni
output - rayzoon jamtix 1
channel - tried 1-16
bank - 0
patch - tried assorted
Audio
input - razoon jamstic 1/2
output - maudio device |

Look at the mapping tab and open the 'Sample' listbox. Are there more entries than 'No Sound'? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Yes - it reads "no sound" - is the sample library possibly installed in the wrong subdirectory - where should those files reside? Thanks! |

Yes, this happens when you either didn't install jamstix_data_setup.exe or installed it into a directory other than the one you chose for the jamstix_setup.exe
Look on your system for a folder called 'samples' with lots of *.rzd files in it. Move that folder into your Jamstix folder where your 'accents','rhythms','manual' etc. folders are. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ok - that didn't work - so I'll try a fresh install. Where should the install be done to?
Program File directory "Cakewalk"
Cakewalk VST ADapter 4
or
Shared Dxi
or
Shared Plugins?
Should I install the jamstix first and then the data (that's how I did it last time)?
Do I need to reinstall the DirectiXer as well?
Thanks! |

Just run jamstix_data_setup.exe and select the same location as the one your jamstix.dll is in. That's all you have to do. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Not only does it WORK (like a mofo), it also laughs at my cheesy "drummer jokes"! I'm getting the "ok, turn it down..." from the little lady!
Thanks for the great tech support, and the killer app! |

Ralph,
I've noticed the following problem when using Jamstix and BFD. I'm currently using Jamstix 1.3 with SONAR 4.0.3, BFD 1.0.10.21 and DirectiXer 2.5.
Whenever I open a project for the first time after running SONAR, the BFD GUI opens correctly when I click the "Configure" button on Jamstix's Mapping page. However, if I close that project and reopen it, or a different project, and then go try to open the BFD GUI again, it always comes up blank.
To reproduce:
1. Create a new project in SONAR, insert Jamstix and configure it with BFD All
2. Click "Configure" to open the BFD GUI and confirm that it is OK
3. Save the project and close it
4. Reopen the same project
5. Attempt to open the BFD GUI again and it should be blank
Closing SONAR completely and running again between steps 3 and 4 will allow the BFD GUI to appear successfully. I used BFD All in this example, but the problem also occurs with BFD Groups or Stereo. However, each version of BFD experiences the problem separately per session. It will allow each of their GUI's to be opened successfully once per SONAR session. For example, if you have just opened BFD All in the previous project, you will be able to open the GUI for BFD Groups in another project, and BFD Stereo in a third. But if you go back to any of them a second time, their respective GUI's will be blank.
I'm not entirely sure if this problem is with Jamstix itself, but I am able to open BFD projects that are not hosted within Jamstix repeatedly and still see the GUI, using either the VST version within DirectiXer or the DXi version, so it doesn't appear to be BFD itself causing the problem.

Hi Bill, I can confirm this is a Jamstix bug. Expect a fix later today. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, Ralph. I had been actually experiencing this blank GUI problem for a while, but finally nailed it down to a reproducable pattern. |
