Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I'm also new to jamstix, well, at least I don't own it, but are a few questions away from buying it Very Happy

First: I heard lotsa rumours about jamstix, and recently I found the time to dive deeper into it by checking out the rayzoon homepage and some youtube vids about that topic. I am impressed! So it looks like jamstix is quiet the thing I'm after...

1) it is mentioned that Jamstix can handle midi as well as audio, so that audio will be accompanied with drums. I mean: really? Sounds kinda blakk magikk Very Happy So, assume I shred along with a guitar - Jamstix can provide instant play-along?

2) So I see, it's not MIDI-out-of-the-box but a generated accompaniment depending on style, drummer, intensity and a dozen of settings more. I can type in some letters that will declare parts of the song (I for Intro, C for Chorus and so on), so assuming that B is for Bridge: what if I have two different bridges (same pattern length but different chords, feel or intensity) before a chorus? Can I define parts?

3) Obviously common time-signatures are no problem. What about odd timesignatures like 13/16th maybe?

I'm very excited about your answers - hope you can forgive me if theres something that would have been otherwise plain to see (I dug my way through the searches but maybe got the wrong key-words).

kind regards

Not quite. In audio jam, Jamstix adapts the song power to the power of the audio signal. Various play decisions are based on this so Jamstix will change some aspects of what it plays but it does not CREATE a drum pattern based on audio input.

The song builder is just a way to get going quickly. You can change styles and drummers for each part afterwards. In your specific case, I'd specify B for both bridges and then change style/drummer on the second bridge afterwards.

Jamstix can only play in any x/4 and x/8 time sig up to 13 eighths per bar. So, 13/16 is not supported but, for example, 12/16 is as 6/8 and 14/16 as 7/8.

Hello Ralph,

thank you for the welcome, and thanks for answering!

Audio jam sounds interesting though! I guess it can be a powerfull base for a start if you got an idea for let's say a ballad, and you choose style, and drummer and so on, and see to what the specific changes Jamstix does may lead you.

The song builder is maybe the second most important reason why I'm thinking 'bout buying it! It reminds me a bit of Reason's "blocks"-function on the conceptional side - but in this case for drums only. This definitely seems to me a great ease for the individual workflow! Can't wait to check this out Cool

OK, so no odd time signatures? Hm, in my case (13/16th) I could at least double the tempo and set the ts to 13/8th. Anotherway would be doubling the tempo, set one bar to 4/4 (as this results in 8/8th) and another bar to 5/8th - which would also be fine, because my 13/16th is actually part straight forward part broken. So if I didn't get this wrong, this would also do.

So I guess I'm good on the go for buying Smile

Thanks alot,

best regards

13/8 is the way to go. Changing sigs a lot within the same song (as in 4/4+5/Cool is too time-consuming to set up due to the VST interface limitations.
