I may have already answered this question but wanted to make sure as I cannot get jamistix to freeze or bounce

" Make sure to add a midi event (note or CC) at the end of the Jamstix track so Sonar doesn't refuse to bounce it thinking it's an empty track"

Yes, Sonar needs events in the MIDI track to bounce or freeze. I usually put a controller event at the start and end of my song.

We are planning a JazzPak with a jazz kit and then an ePak with electronic drum sounds. Beyond that...we'll see.

Now, you know by now that the above is a blatant lie by now Ralph dont you? Laughing

I have a hard time understanding Midi Automation - But I definitely want to understand how to change the dynamics in my arrangements (sidestick, etc.) - I know you said this was a part of what you use in building tracks

Can you give me a quick snapshot of the "how to" in using these tools with JS.

Here's a quick example:

  • open Sonar and add Jamstix
  • right-click into the Jamstix MIDI track and choose 'Envelopes'->''Create Track Envelope'->'MIDI'
  • select type 'NRPN' and the value box should now be filled with all Jamstix MIDI automation parameters

Try out 'Velocity'. It will give you a blue line in the MIDI track that you can double-click on to add splice points. Drag those up and down to change the envelope of the parameter. Build an envelope for 10 bars or so and then set Jamstix to free jam and let Sonar play. Listen to Jamstix and you will be able to see how the curve that you've built controls the Jamstix velocity.
