hi,
i want to create a basic beat like what is in this tune. the song starts just after the 5 minute mark.
http://www.puremix.net/video/othering/events/gearfest-2011-mixing-1-4-setting-up.html
i created my song structure. i used custom jazz and peter as the drummer. i like what it is doing but i want something way more basic.
any tips?
thanks
brian

Here's how I'd approach this. Firstly, this is not a jazz groove but a basic 8th backbeat groove. So, that is where I'd start with it:
- set host to 4/4 at about 90BPM
- load '8th Rock' style
- load 'James Stix' drummer
Since your sample shows cross-sticking on the snare, select the 'Crossstick' preset for the drummer or, if you're using a different drummer, just move 'Max Power' in 'Auto Snare' all the way right.
Load the 'Brush Kit (XL)' kit. You may want to choose the 'Sidestick' articulation on the snare and bump up the volume a bit to make it stand out more.
Finally, use 'Extract From Style' and grab 'Groove Brushing' from 'Brush Swing' under 'Jazz & Swing' and then set it's style to 'Full'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
