|
|
Newbie question here: Is "Ambience" the same as "room mics"? Are the kits recorded with close up mics and room mics?
And if so ... how does that work if a drum or cymbals from one kit is replaced with that from another kit ... ?
I've been reading about engineering live drums, and how people vary the amount of room mics and up close mics. I was wondering how that would be done with JS3.
Thanks for maybe helping me out of the confusion. _________________ Alexis

Yes, 'Ambience' is a stereo room mic signal. Most Jamstix sounds have two stereo components, one stereo close mic and one stereo room mic signal. Changing kit piece ambience levels (or main ambience) alters the ratio of them.
As far as combining kits goes: the Jamstix 3 stock kit, BonzoPak and Jamcussion sounds were recorded in the same room so have similar ambience character. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, Ralph.
Would it sound odd if instruments from kits other than the ones you listed were mixed in to the kit? Would the different "ambience"/room sounds clash?

@alexis,
its quite easy to try this try for yourself...
right click a drum in the kit window, hit change sound... then select a new drum. Play away! |

Thanks keys_reaper - have done that many times (replaced a drum), with no ill effects heard. But I'm just learning about using room mics, so haven't really adjusted ambience much before, certainly not w/ a replaced drum .
It's probably a question of academic interest only, as I can't identify a situation where I'd need to replace a JS3 sound w/ one from JS2, etc. "Posting instead of doing" to help satisfy my cold turkey withdrawal symptoms of being away from my DAW on holiday!
Thanks! _________________ Alexis
