|
|
Hello friends at the rayzoon forum,
I'm thinking about buying Jamstix, but I'm not sure if it's for me. I'm mainly interested in speed/ease of use and realism. I'm under the impression that the user can tap out a simple beat of any length, import it into Jamstix, and the software will create an entire "improvised" drum part of any length. If anyone can shed some light on how this works, I'd appreciate it. Links to audio samples or demos would be very helpful also.
Thanks,
Craig |

| Hey non_drummer, I watched the videos but they don't go into much detail demonstrating what the software is capable of. |

One way you can use Jamstix is to import a basic kick/snare or even kick/snare/hihat groove from MIDI files, or create them in Jamstix's bar editor, and then combine this 'seed' with any Jamstix style and drummer to create a full, varied peformance with variations, accents and fills.
This is explained in this video:

How can I find out the characteristics of each drummer, or do I have to "audition" each one? How often does it repeat the same fills? Thanks |

Each drummer has some notes shown in the load screen but it is best to spend some time with them to get a feel for what they do. Also, each drummer has various brain elements that you can change to adjust the performance.
Technically, there are no repeated fills in Jamstix because fills are generated based on rules rather than static, pre-made fills. However, if the fill settings are made highly restrictive, fills will be more similar. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Depends on the bundle. "Jamstix 3 Studio" has 141 styles and 33 drummers. More detail can be found here: http://www.rayzoon.com/buy.html _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I'm having trouble creating a drum groove from scratch. I clicked the trash can icon and then the preview icon as shown in the video, but I can still hear notes being played even though the bar editor appears to be empty. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, let me know. Thanks |

There may be notes in the accent or fill section, click ACCENT or FILL and the bar editor will show them. Also, it's best to start with a clean sheet for manual grooves. Just select 'Silent' style and drummer and then click 'Reset Song' in the song menu. This gives you an empty part and JS won't try to compose the groove with you.
Finally, also try the 'Classic' style where you can tell JS easily where to place kick and snare notes instead of having to edit manually in the bar editor. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Ok, I'm getting further but still having trouble. I created a style in 6/4 time and saved it. Then I used the wizard to create a song and something happened to the style I created. It changed to 4/4 time and it removed the kick drum hits. Any help would be appreciated. |

Make sure the host is set to 6/4 and click 'Reset Song' in the song menu. Then try the wizard with your style again. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Still having trouble. I went back to 4/4 in Jamstix and host. Every time I use the wizard, it removes my kick/snare groove. |
