Is there any way to force an open hat at specific beats? I tried making a groove in the bar editor with the hats open on 2 and 4, and used "turn groove into style" but after the first bar, it reverted to closed hats.

What I want is generally 8th hats with open hats on 2 and 4.

Okay I tried it again with the hihat foot a 16th after, and used save as style instead and it worked fine.

But another problem I have, is how do you do something like that combined with the classic controls that give a chance to set the likelihood of given hits on say, the kick.

Like to get the variation, but just force the open hats at certain times in the groove.

Hand-edited notes cannot have probabilities. I'll see what work-arounds we can support in a future update.

Ok, I feel foolish, of course there is a way to do it, duh....

I just made the groove in the bar editor with only the open hats on 2 and 4, with the hat foot a 16th after, changed that to a style, added a priority control to that element turned all the way to the left.... (could turn it up some to get variation there too if I wanted)... added the classic controls for the kick and snare, and the hat elements from 8th rock... done deal.

Sometimes the flexibility of this program gets away from ya lol

The key was realizing that the import groove element was just another style element like any other, heck you can even add more than one.

But ratz, the priority control doesn't work as I had hoped. It either does it every time or it doesn't do it at all.

Maybe add a probability control to the element menu? (I can do two separate grooves, one for the open hat on 2, the other on 4)

I'm working on doing drums for Freebird, where he does the open hats on 2 and 4 pretty much every time during the slide parts, but only occasionally during the singing, and I'm trying to make it close, but not an exact copy.

Just a thought but if it was possible to add it as an accent element then you could have it appearing occasionally during the singing

Yeah, that would work too! Good idea. It would generally be nice to be able to add particular accent elements in any case.

The bias slider on an open hats accent element might work too for this case, but it's hard to judge exactly where to put it for a particular timing.

Still cant get this to work when turning groove into style. Only plays 1st bar correctly then reverts to closed hats all the time.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong

Make sure you start fresh with ONLY the open hats you want (and foot closes) in the groove that you change to a style. Make sure you add a priority control to the groove element created, and turn it all the way counter clockwise. iirc it didn't work if it wasn''t all the way.

Then add the other elements as needed from other styles... like I added the classic kick and snare elements, and the 8th rock hats.. and rely on the drummer for any other frills and fills.
