First of all, this is a great program. I got it a couple of days ago and have been head first into it for much of the time. The program is very deep and while I've been grasping a lot of it there are some things that are still eluding me.

1. Is there a way to edit just a section of a song? In other words can I take a group of 8 bars and make edits that only affect those bars? Right now when I'm constructing song sections via song builder it will do things like go to the ride in the chorus, but what if I want to switch from a quarter note hi-hat groove in the verse to an eighth note groove on the hi-hat for example? What would be the best and easiest way to do this? I see how to edit a single bar, but what about a group of bars..and if it's possible to do this can you make it happen for all like sections throughout the song?

2. The "force hit" box on the bar editor doesn't seem to be working for me. I get the red rectangle, and according to the manual it should force a bass and crash hit..but I haven't been able to get Jamstix to do this. As a matter of fact it won't insert anything new at all into these parts of the beat. What I really want to do is get Jamstix to do rhythmic hits/stabs at certain measures in a bar and have the brain work around that. I haven't figured this one out yet either, if it's even possible.

3. When I import midi loops from EZDrummer which have swing in them already they are handled weird by Jamstix. Is this because the program is trying to force the swing notes in the groove back into place? Is Jamstix equipped to handle pre-existing midi grooves with swing already in place or are we out of luck on these types of grooves?

Thanks for any present and future help as I'm sure I'll have more questions as I dig deeper. This is a great program and I'm sure I've only scratched the surface of it.

Re 3 there is an option to quantize imports. Turn it off in this case?

If verse and chorus are separate parts, just edit the style in the chorus to use a 8th note hihat groove and 'switch off' power hand by setting the threshold to max. You can also hand-edit a bar and then use 'Turn Groove Into Style' in the bar menu. Either way, use 'Part menu->Copy->Copy To All Similar Parts' to have your changes affect all other parts of the same type.

Does the ACCENT tab show a "HITS" element?

Jamstix adds swing by itself so the importer expects straight grooves. But, as suggested, you can turn off import quantizing and it should work fine.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I did get the forced hits to work, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I was hoping for something like a stop-time. Is this possible in Jamstix?
