| i am probably missing something blatantly simple but can you actually see the audio on a jamstix track? When I play a jamstix 'song' back in Reaper the cursor moves and the bar count increases but nothing is showing up as audio. I tried recording the song track rather than just playing it but still no audio shows up. Is this because you can't actually edit any of the data? |

Ok, try reading the manual sometimes..All output from Jamstix is in midi format, so do i choose the Input Midi track option and set it to All Channels or just Source Channel?
Also do I need to have monitor input off for this to work? |

in reaper select record output (rightclick on record button) multichannel, compensated.
Start record and you'll get an audio track containing what jamstix is composing.
If you want a midi track, simply drag the whole song from the jamstix window to the DAW or record live as shown above (output, midi).
And do not forget to rout all the output to channel 1 in jamstix otherwise you will only hear the bassdrum 
Also read the reaper manual somtimes |

Thats really helpful, thanks. I don't understand how i can get an audio track if jamstix only outputs in midi but I'm new to all this and the terminology is a bit opaque. When you say 'drag the whole song' what exactly do you click on? Is it the bit in the song window or the preset name?
I knew the thing about routing output to channel 1, but if you disable the downmix option in jamstix won't it create tracks in Reaper for each piece of kit?
I really will get round to looking in the manual someday, its just that Reaper users are the friendliest and most helpful people..... |

Hi,
If you are using the 64bit beta, drag and drop midi is disabled for now. It still works in the 32bit version. The easiest way I've found to use JS in Reaper is to right click in the track panel and choose "Insert Virtual Instrument On New Track". Reaper will set up all of the routing for you and then I right click the Record Arm button on the track with JS inserted and choose "Record: output (MIDI). I then Shift+Click the JS3 Out 1-8 tracks, click/sweep then right click one of the Record Arm buttons and choose "Record: output (stereo, latency compensated). This way I record both the MIDI and audio output from JS3. Make sure that "Downmix" is DE-selected in the JS mixer panel and in the JS Kit or Mixer window use the dropdown menu @ the top left and choose Set Output Routing - 8 - blah blah blah blah blah. Hope this helps. |

| @ a_zimuth - thats brilliant, EXACTLY what I was looking for. Neither the Reaper manual or the jamstix user guide really explain how something this basic actually works |
