Jamstix & Presonus Studio One 2 (Jamstix 3.5.0 Beta9 x64 + Kontakt 5 x64 - hint against crackles)
I hope someone will help the following description if he changes to Presonus One Studio 2 x64 and the Jamstix x64 Beta. On the other site this could be a hint for the programmers as well...
Be patient with my english. It is not my mother tongue
Two weeks ago I changed to Presonus Studio One 2 x64 and had to clean up all my VSTi to 64 Bit. I dont want to use VST Bridges, so I decided to work with the Jamstix Beta x64. I tested the Beta and find it very usefull at this point. Some litte bugs (gui) but you definitly can work with this Beta
But yesterday I stumbled upon a strange problem with sound crackles in using the Kontakt 5 Sampler on a second track. Jamstix plays his drum parts clean until I played a bassline in the Kontakt 5 sampler. The sound from Jamstix crackles all the time when Kontakt 5 plays his sounds.
I changed the Kontakt 5 with other VSTi. All of them worked very well beside Jamstix but not Kontakt 5.
Why this only happened with Kontakt 5 beside Jamstix ? I dont know. It could be a bug in Jamstix Beta or in Presonus and has to do with the VSTi multi outputs and with the option DOWNMIX in Jamstix.
So try this in combination:
1. Open Jamstix on the first track and load the jamstix standard song from the wizard.
2. Open Kontakt 5 on the second track and load any sound.
3. Press play in Presonus and hear the lovely playing drummer from Jamstix.
4. Change to the Kontakt track and play some midi notes. Aaarrgh my ears...
And here is the simple solution:
The loaded kit uses multi mixer channels within the Jamstix mixer but MIXDOWN all to the first stereo output. Presonus only activates the first stereo output if you load a new VSTi with multi outputs. In this situation you hear all drumsounds from stereo one but Kontakt 5 on the second DAW track disturbs the audio output somehow.
So go to the Presonus mixer and klick on the instruments section. Show up the Jamstix outputs and activate ALL outputs !!! Now you can use the default DOWNMIX feature in Jamstix to record only the first stereo output from Jamstix AND play Kontakt 5 without any sond crackles.
If you always use separate outputs from Jamstix you wont have problems with Kontakt 5 anyway.
On the other hand the Jamstix programmers should take a look at this or upgrade the FAQ:
In Presonus Studio One 2 x64 ALWAYS aktivate ALL outputs from your Jamstix VST
