Working on a 12 bar Blues shuffle where the intro clicks off first two beats, a soft roll for the next two, dead silence for the following 2 beats, and does an even softer roll through the toms for the last two beats of the 2nd measure.

Here is my dilemma. The song is 105 BPM, and I want to spice up the intro to give it the punch needed.

Ideally, what I want is a click for the 1 measure. Measure #2 play a solid fill building to a crescendo leading into the verse.

I have tried different drummers, tweaked some of the (Groove, Fill, and Accent) parameters. All I keep getting is this soft, limp intro. Any thoughts on how to produce a vibrant intro that wakes the listener up?

Automate the Power Level of JS3 in your DAW and tweak the Double Strokes Snare and Tom controls for the Bar(s) you want spiced up. You should be able to get in the ball park this way. You can also right click the Beat number in the Bar Editor and choose "add cymbal wash", "add snare/tom crescendo" or "add snare roll".

Well, I never!

Thanks for the tip, a zimuth!!

Thanks A, I wanted to post again to say I tweaked the settings you suggested and out popped something more doable. Although, I cannot understand why in a 2 bar intro the drummer stops his fill on the first two beats of the 2nd bar and then resumes for the last two. I cannot seem to shake that. It keeps playing the stick tick for those two beats.

Do you have "Last Bar Only" activated in the Intro Style control? Also, increase the Transition fill and Repetition fill length to the max.

Your suggestions for punching the intro has worked well. Thanks! The next obstacle I have run into that I cannot correct is in a particular measure where there is a fill playing, although there are red "X"s within the measure and I cannot edit the measure to fix. I don't want the fill there, plus the notes in the measure are not showing what is actually being played.

Here is what I have been trying to correct this problem:
Compose the Bar with the correct beats entered.
Compose the Bar with no notes entered.

Neither of these fix the awful, off-feel, fill that stops the flow of the song. Is there something else I should be doing to remove the existing fill and replace it with my own entry although the notes are not displayed in the measure and any notes I do enter are not played?

Note: I did select for this tune a predefined 12 Bar Blues shuffle from the selections available as opposed to building the track from scratch. Would it be better to create something from scratch in order to do my own editing when I need to? Or, can the predefined songs work just as well and I must be doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Is this in the Intro or somewhere else in the song?

The problem occurs in the middle of the song under Chorus 1.

Try unchecking Repetition Fill (RF) in the Song Sheet for that part and also look in the Accent and Fill windows to see what's there. Also mute Jamcussion (Shift+ left click the JC icon) if you've got it installed to see if that corrects the problem.

I am on the Song tab and the "RF" has kick drum as its contents and not any fills.

I tried to edit the "Fill" window to see if it would correct problematic fill. But, it cannot be corrected. I may need to just build from scratch instead of pre-designed templates and see what happens.

Thanks!

You could try clearing the bar and copying a "good" bar from elsewhere in the song to paste in the location giving you problems. Just an idea.

Click the trash icon while in the fill window on the problem fill and it will be removed.
