Pretty new to Jamstix and have a question regarding the bars. When you go to save a bar, it asks you how many bars you want to save. What exactly am I doing if I save it for more than one bar? I see that it creates to separate bars if I hit 2.
I see that there are some styles that are for more than one bar also. Is there a way to edit more than one bar at a time.
If you do create a two bar part when you compose a part from that does it revolve back and forth between those two parts?
Thank you! |

The number identifies how many (unique) bars your groove consists of. Most grooves are single bar patterns so you'd just use 1.

You can edit any bar any time. Did you mean preview-looping more than one bar?

Yes, if I understand you correctly. A bar can be set to a length of 4 in the song sheet and still use a single-bar pattern, which repeats across the 4 bars. If you use a two-bar style or groove, those two bars will repeat across the four bars. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for your reply Ralph. Yes, I mean the preview loop.
If you put together a groove for a bar and then save it as 2 bars, what exactly will the second bar be since you can't put together the second part of it? I am assuming you can't edit 2 bar parts in the preview all at once.
You say in the song sheet, do you mean the part of the left? I do not see where you can change the bar length, when you click on bar, it gives you the option to change the part length, but I dont believe that would do anything but revolve the 1 bar to whatever you input. |

I think I see what you are saying now. If I go to the part and change it to 2, then have it repeat as many time as I want then it will revolve between those two.
So to create my 2 bar pattern, I would make the first part, save it as a two bar pattern, then I would have to preview the second part of it, change it and save it to the same name??? |

Here's how I do it:
- preview loop bar one and edit it
- preview loop bar two and edit it
- go back to bar one and click 'Turn Groove Into A Style' (bar editor menu), specify 2 bars when prompted _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Would that be after i create a new part which would have two bars?
So when I specify two bars what it does is take the next bar in that part and saves it?
I believe I understand.
Thank you so much for your help.
A lot of stuff to get the hang of but awesome program. |

Think of it this way:
The length of the part in the song sheet should be the natural length of the unique chord sequence of that part in the song. Very often you'll have several chords spanning 4 bars that are played twice to make the part. That's why you'd set the part length to 4 and the reps to 2. This has nothing to do with the length of the drum pattern. It may be one-bar, two-bar or even four-bar. Jamstix will repeat the drum pattern over the part no matter what. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I understand how the parts are put together and the repititions and all that. My question was how the two bar parts are actually made. Say, I have a style that I use for my verse 1 and chorus but want something different for a refrain. So I decide to make that beat manually, but on the first bar I want a typical drum beat but on the second bar I want it to be different maybe with toms. Would not the simplest way to do this to create a two bar groove or am I not thinking about it right? |

Yes, a two-bar pattern would be best for that using the method I mentioned before:
- preview loop bar one and edit it
- preview loop bar two and edit it
- go back to bar one and click 'Turn Groove Into A Style' (bar editor menu), specify 2 bars when prompted _________________ Ralph Zeuner
