Looks great, just having a look at the demo, in SX 3.
Couple of things I notice.
1 when using BFD all I configured Jamstix with 14 outputs so that I can get all the BFD routings, looks like the Overhead, Room and PMZ outputs appear OK, but all the individual drum outputs are mono and appear L then right on each of the subsequent outpts. So Output 4 has BFDKckI on the left and BFDKckO on the right and so on through out the kit.
I, like a lot of BFD users, sent the kick, snare, tom, cymbal etc mics to their own groups this makes it rather difficult.
2 The BFD Window can appear outsize the Cubase SX window, it is not a child like normal VSTs, not sure if this is good or bad, just different.
It strikes me that loading the VSTi is hard work, having to handle all this routing and window stuff, could you also try Jamstix as a Midi VST plugin then you can route the output of the Midi track to your VSTi (BFD)?
This would be easier to use in SX, don't knw about other hosts.
Pity about the Audio Jam limitations in SX, any idea if there might be a fix for that? |

Yes, that's a thing on our list. We 're working on it.

Just use the LOAD and SAVE buttons in the MAPPINGS tab. Once you've setup a VSTi the way you want it, click SAVE and store it to a mapping file. Next time you want to load it in Jamstix don't even touch the External VSTi switch, just click LOAD and load the mapping and all will be recalled including all settings inside of the VSTi

You can already do that. Jamstix sends all its events to the MIDI out so you can take a MIDI track and set its input to Jamstix and its output to your VSTi of choice. In the demo version this is limited to bars 1 through 4, though.

Did you try the audioM8 plugin? Works great in SX! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

OK I tried it using the Midi out routing to a midi track looks fine.
I noticed that when I put fill frequency on 4 (as it only plays 4 bars) I get a fill at the end of bar 3 not bar 4 (the bar numbers are reported correctly in SX and drumstix).
I did get few crashes and freezes when loading BFD directly, it does seem more reliable using the midi routing.
When I said it was hard work loading the VSTi directly, I ment for you to code all that messy stuff, handling windows and the routing.
I suppose you only have a limited number of drum VSTis to track, but I bet it won't be easy.
I noticed that the slider switches on Jam With Midi/Audio and mapping->sounds->Internal/External VSTi & Metronome->Voice/Drumsticks don't display correctly, I see grey for selected option and white and dark grey bands for unselected options. I don't think that is how you wanted it to be.
Jam with Midi does work with a live played midi keyboard in SX, however with the audioM8 plugin in an audio track with the monitor audio button on in SX the audio is not appearing in the audioM8 meter, it does when the audio is recorded.
This is the limitation I was talking about, is there any way round this on SX? |

Thanks for the catch, Bassman5. This will be fixed in the next demo update, which should be out tonight or tomorrow.

The demo update has a variety of stability fixes, please try again with the update when it is released and let us know how it works.

You are right, it is a can of worms But we wanted to give this options for users with hosts that don't route MIDI as well or don't support MIDI-Out from VSTi

It makes sense to us but the new demo highlights the label of the active option to improve readability

Hmm, we have SX 2 and we put audioM8 as an insert effect in an audio track, then hit the monitor button on the audio track and we can hear the audio signal and see the needle move in audioM8.
Are you doing it the same way? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Found the problem with live monitoring!
I had the 'Direct Monitoring' option switched on in Devices->Device Setup->VST Audiobay, because I use an external mixer for monitoring. Turn that off and all works as expected.
I thought turning on 'Direct Monitoring' would reduce the load on the machine, ( which it may do by 1 or 2% in the Windows performance meeting but not a very exact test). But I did find that you could insert audioM8 on the Input channel and that works regardless of the 'Direct Monitoring' Setting.
Note go into the Mixer (F3) ensure Hide Input Channels is not orange and find the channel on which the audio is comming in and insert the audioM8 plugin there. You don't need to use an audio track at all, which is sort of interesting.
Will try 0.99g for stability on my machie. |

OK it is better but I still got a CPU 100% busy after playing with it for 15 mins.
I flip between the mapping page to Configure BFD, then to the Jam and rythm tabs to adjust the rythm while it is playing with Jam to Audio from a SX track. Might be good to put the configure button on all pages BTW.
The BFD window gets confused sometimes as well, it gets caught behind SX (because it is not a child of the SX window like other VSTIs) and clicking on the window name in the task bar does not always bring it forward, it needs a few presses.
Just tried 0.99M seems even better no CPU overloads so far
Still don't get your slide switches (Jam with Midi / Audio) you press them like radio buttons but they are displayed like slide swiches. |

We'll put a keyboard shortcut on the list...

Have you tried the 'stay-on-top' option?

Hmm....they are rocker switches, up and down, and the labels next to them should highlight appropriately... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi!
Great software you have created, I have sendt my preorder for Jamstick.
Is there a preset for a BFD map witch I can load without having to load BFD inside jamsick?
Will you also make presets for Battery & Dr-008?
Keep up the good work.

Hi Thor and thank you for your pre-order!
That's a good idea about the BFD template, we'll look into it.
You can make your own quickly as follows:
- load existing BFD mapping into Jamstix
- click rocker switch in SOUNDS panel of the MAPPINGS tab to 'Internal' position. This will unload BFD and load the internal sound.
- save mapping to a file of your choice
This still wastes a bit of memory because the internal samples are loaded. If you want to recoup that use a low-impact VSTi like the free rcg audio sfz player and load it into an existing BFD mapping. It won't take up much memory at all.
Concerning DR-008 and Battery mappings: We may create some but we are also hoping that people will make and share their own. We may also facilitate such exchanges on our site in the future. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Andrew and welcome to the board!

Download this mapping and put it the 'mappings' folder of your Jamstix install
http://www.rayzoon.com/BFD_All_Outputs.rdm
- register Jamstix with DirectiXer or Cakewalk VST adapter
- open Sonar
- add Jamstix in synth rack
- open mappings tab and increase the Jamstix outputs to 9 so there's enough outputs for BFD All
- Save project, close it and reopen it (so Jamstix can get the new outputs). You only need to do that when you change the number of outputs
- Open mapping tab in Jamstix and click LOAD
- Select 'BFD All Outputs' mapping. You may get prompted to find the BFD DLL for Jamstix. This will only occur once.
- BFD should load now, wait a bit while the hard drive churns
- Go to the jam tab and click free jam
- Arm any old track in Sonar and hit 'Record'
You should now hear Jamstix playing BFD drums _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I can't get the audit button on the mapping page to make any noise through BFD.
Any ideas? |
