I've taken the more obvious approach to getting Jamstix working in my Mac-based studio. I haven't got a lot of spare cash lying around for software like ipMIDI - I just used it to buy the JS3 upgrade and Jamcussion (and very nice they are, thanks Ralph).
However, I do have a lot of old hardware lying around so I set up an old PC with sound card (Lynx 22) and MIDI Interface (MIDISport 2x2) and dedicated it to Jamstix. Logic is the timing Master and the PC slaves to it via MTC. I can use the JS MIDI Out to drive a virtual instrument on the Mac or use the JS internal sounds and either record them directly or bounce the audio on the PC and import it into Logic.
This solution, in theory, should have cost me nothing. However, I was having troubles with dropouts running JS in my PC host (SONAR - even when JS was in MIDI Only Mode!. The simple solution was to download and install Reaper and all seems to be well. I've sent them the $40 for a licence because I'm not into piracy and at that price it really would be criminal not to pay. |

I was wondering if there is any 'new' news on the official Mac version of Jamstix.
Steve Jobs called and asked me if I was ever coming back to Mac and I told him as soon as he gets his narrow ass over to Rayzoon and gives Ralph whatever he needs to make Jamstix work I'd buy his biggest baddest Mac. I don't suppose you guys have spotted him lurking about have you? |

Unfortunately no 'new' news other than we're working on it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Well, Ralph,
That's a whole lot better than "we're not working on it any more"
I wait in anticipation. |

Are you afraid that Ralph will forget to let us know when there's news? |

Hi Ralph. Obviously, I understand that if we were close at all, to actually having JS on a Mac any time soon, we'd have heard about it by now. But is there now a chance that it won't happen? Seems to have fallen off the radar.
Thanks.

What we are doing right now is completing the 64-bit Win version of JS using cross-platform components of our OSX development as well as replacing other code that cannot be migrated to Win-64 with OSX-compatible sections.
In other words, while our focus is Win-64, the result will also be that much closer to OSX. We are still confident that we can complete OSX within this year. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Great news Ralph. Thanks. Will existing users be entitled to it or will we have to pay an up-charge?
Thanks again.
