For enough MIDI Out tracks for a complete kit, is it commonplace to run two or more instances of JS concurrently. Very new stuff for me and need to learn many conventions using virtual drums.

As I consider adding another plugin, do most popular ones allow for more than 8 MIDI IN channels to drive their Kits? (EZD, SD2, AD, others)

No, it is not common place to do that. Also, plugins output ONE MIDI stream, which you can SPLIT in the host into up to 16 channels. Can you tell me why you want to do that?

Ha! No, I can't. Not being sarcastic at all. Kits often have more than 8 pieces and I thought I would need to have a MIDI track for each piece in some cases. Also uninformed in terms of how many MIDI channels are contained in JS3 MIDI Out. How do I separate 4 Toms or Cyms (if I even need to)?

Lots to learn about this for sure.

{edit} Right now I'm subhosting StyluRMX in JS3 ... Kit MIDI Mode, all RMX tracks are playing. but JS3 kit is playing as well. When subhosting, How do I mute JS3 Kit sounds to play only the subhosted drum sounds? (other than SHIFT-clicking on Kit pieces. What JS3 Kit selection when subhosting?

Thanks
Tom B

The MIDI standard supports up to 16 channels but let's clear up the basic question: Why do you think you need to record each kit piece in a separate track? Just trying to advise based on your needs.

Note: I just edited previous post re. subhosting RMX and sounds.

If using another drum rompler with JS3, let's assume not subhosted. If there are multiple Toms or Cyms, or any piece, how is each piece treated ?

I am just too ignorant of MIDI and do not understand how JS3 MIDI Out is sorted by another rompler which is receiving the MIDI and uses multiple similar pieces (eg. Toms). Maybe if you explain why JS3 offers 1-8 MIDI Output channels I can clear up my thinking about using them.

Just emailed you. The gist is: kit pieces are separated by MIDI key, NOT channel.

I thought you were struggling on this TB. If Ralph's email hasn't cleared this up, feel free to PM me here or the REAPER forums and I'll help best I can.

MIDI refresher course ahoy ;o)

Amen !! Really worse off than I thought with MIDI. Never encountered so many issues until starting to really work with drum rompler plug-ins.

Thanks,
Tom B
