Hi -
The only way I could keep JS3 playing exactly the same thing every measure of the song was to copy one measure that I built to every other measure in the song. I then hit "lock" on everything I could see, and saved the bar, the style, the kit, the drummer, and the song. Otherwise, it just seemed to have a mind of its own as far as what it wanted to play.
Is there an easier way to turn on JS3 and have it play the same thing measure after measure for the duration of the song?
Thanks!
Edit: at 3:00 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agpun_SkH_c she talks about "turn groove into style", a drop down in the bar editor. Looks like that would be a big help - looks like it avoids the copy and paste to all the bars.
I gotta get a better handle on the relationship between song, style, groove, etc. I thought originally that maybe when I had everything set up, I could save all the settings as a "song", but I'm reading now that a "song" just is composed of the page, kit, and mixer. So I guess that means that I need to call up a "Song", a "Groove" and a "Style" each time ... does that sound right? _________________ Alexis

Well, what I usually do to create a “metronome” is:
Leave the single, default Verse in place, but extend its length to be sure it will outrun the song. Don’t check the RF (repeat fill) box.
Select a Kit.
Select Standard Rock from the Toolbox group as the Style.
Do not select any drummer.
Start the DAW playing and adjust the Kick and Snare grids and the Hihat controls in the Song/Groove window to get the beat I need.
Also, if shuffle is needed, click the Shuffle button (middle left of the interface), select 8th or 16th and adjust the shuffle amount slider.
I can then record takes along with this without worrying about where what I’m recording will end up in the final song.
I don’t know if that helps you, but that’s what I do, if my song doesn’t have time signature changes. (If it does, this simple method won’t work.) I’ve always found it nearly impossible to play along with metronomes or click tracks; but using Jamstix this way works great to lay down the basics. Then, once I have an arrangement better sorted, I can set up the verses, choruses, etc. to make a “real” drum part... though I use this technique even for songs where I won’t ultimately include a drum track. |

Thank you, Coises, that is awesome! It looks like "do not select any drummer" was important. I will try this next time, or maybe page 50, "Silent" style and drummer, "Lock Manually Created Events". Sometimes I don't want any flourishes/fills, etc., just the straight beat.
Thanks again! _________________ Alexis
