This is probably a screwy mix, but it seems to me that Jamstix pretty well convinces it's a human being. This was before I learned how to split out the individual tracks, so I will give it another pass with each drum treated a bit differently but I have to say I'm very pleased with how this sounds. I did very little editing - it was done so fast I couldn't believe the time savings!

EDIT - I've tamed the drum track a little. Mixing is hard. Hard, people!

DB,
I am a newbee here. When you had the breaks in the measure, what that something you programmed via MIDI, or was it something Jamstix intuitively followed your other tracks.
I am not clear on my understanding of this. I read that Jamstix has the ability to sense and jam along with the track as if a live drummer. Is that the case in your tune?
Thanks! |

No, I didn't use the audio jam feature for this. I wrote the song parts in using the Wizard and the notation that Jamstix uses, then the "Drummer" chooses the fills based on his parameters. You can tell the program when you want the fills too. It's not that hard, and I think one or two times through the manual is about all it takes to get that part down pretty well.
I've used the audio jam and while it will sense your velocity, it can't tell what part of a song you are in unless you enter that into the Wizard too, which is no big deal at all. It will do fills based on how many bars you have gone -- basically, it is like a real jam with a drummer where there's no set song structure. But if I understand it right, the program will not take groove cues from you, only velocity cues.
EDIT -- I've been having such a good time with this that I've done another old tune with Jamstix separated into channels:

I experimented with a lot of different drummers to figure out what I wanted here. I tried all the Prog/Metal drummers and while it was kind of cool, it wasn't really what the song wanted. I settled with Will and let him cut loose a bit.
I have to say I really am impressed with Jamstix 3! |

I am so happy with Jamstix I could become a rep for free!
For the longest time I've been trying to write progressive rock songs, but the main problem you run into is that there really aren't any loops out there that will do what you need while you are in the writing mode, so you wind up having to make the loops yourself -- or that is, you used to.
Now, you just plug in Jamstix, tell it what the meter is and off it goes.
This is in 7/8:

Believe it or not, that's Charlie handling the prog drums there. I wanted to keep things simple, and it really sounds pretty good. |

Nice work! Can't believe you got 'Charlie' to do a 7/8 _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I was looking for something simple for songwriting purposes. I thought it probably wouldn't work, but I tried it and dang if he didn't do a solid job. |
