Posted: Mon Dec 26, 2011 5:26 pm Post subject: Control snare volume between parts in JS? How |
|
|
I've got JS 3.3 and I'm trying to control the snare volume between parts. I have 7-8 parts. On a verse I'm using the sidesnare, and during the chorus I switch to the snare top. I've tried change the velocity and/or the volume in the mixer for each of the two sounds, but it seems that all volume levels affect each part.
I have the song parts done, but need to control the level of the snare. What's the best way?
Just use automation on the Snare send in Reaper?
Thanks in advance.

You can control overall power dynamics via 'Song Power Level' VST automation in the host.
Isolating the snare requires you to set the 'Power' level of the snare in the brain for each part. This depends on the style. Let me know if you need more help on this. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I could use more help...
Ralph, I looked and the only setting for snare is 'Auto Snare' with a Max Power slider. I'm using a custom style, and James Stix as the drummer. Seems that when I move that slider from the 75% position and higher, it goes to the sidesnare option.
That's all I can see. I suppose I could write the snare out to a stem and automate the volume... Hmmm...
I'm still learning this thing! Thanks for the help.

When you say 'Custom Style' do you mean you are using an imported or hand-edited groove? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yes, a groove turned into a style.
I went ahead and just recorded the output of the snare, then automated it. That worked ok, but if there is a way to control the volume otherwise, it would be nice to know.
Seems the velocity and mixer volume levels apply to the entire song/kit. Not each part.
Thanks for your help Ralph!

There is no way currently to do that in JS. You can attenuate the groove importer for a part but that will affect all sounds, not just the snare.
I'll see about a solution for a future update. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Just thought of something: if you send the snare to its own audio output, you could control volume in the host via a volume envelope. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
