I'm thinking Jamstix will be right up the alley of many in the N crowd (I used to use N), so here's a thread for them!

Hi,

I downloaded the demo this afternoon and I've tried to use it in n-Track and it keeps hanging whilst playing.

I've tried both routing a midi track and playing live and also loading up a wav file and routing that to jamstix via the Audiom8 plugin

seems that whilst it's playing the sytem just hangs and I can't click on any buttons in either n-Track or Jamstix

Program looks promising though...

Rich

Sekim,
thanks for opening the thread! I made it sticky.

RichLum, we will investigate this. Stay tuned.

Looks like problems with n-Track itself. I can't get Native Instruments B4 to run in the current version of N either...

I have downloaded the demo, can't get it to do anything in N-track, but have set it up in minihost. I love the program and would give anything to free jam with it in N-track. I hope this is worked out, if not, please let me know the best alternative setup..

Hi bw's and welcome to the board!

At this time we cannot afford to deal with the n-track issues, especially since other VSTi from big companies have problems in n-track, too, indicating host issues.

As far as other hosts are concerned, it is not an easy choice. Here are some hosts that we like and that work well with Jamstix:

- Tracktion
- Sonar 3 and 4
- Cubase SX 2 and 3
- Ableton Live 4.1
- FL Studio 5

Thanks for the fast reply. You will have my $100 tonight and I will be purchasing Sonar just to run the program. Just to clarify, all of the host programs you listed will run the audio jam utility?

If you order tonight, it will be a pre-order and you only pay $89 Cool

Don't buy Sonar just to run Jamstix! I recommend chosing your host carefully because it determines much of your workflow and there is more to your music than drums. I personally love Sonar 4 and use it for all my music making but it does have MIDI routing limitations compared to Cubase and Tracktion.

I recommend checking out the Tracktion demo. Tracktion is currently $80 online so it's a lot cheaper than Sonar or Cubase and it may fit your bill.

I can vouch for Sonar, Cubase SX and Tracktion. Live and FL5 were only tested partially and we're pretty much relying on user feedback. There are support threads for each host in the jamstix support forum if you want to make sure.

Hi Ralph,
Well I would have tried the demo tonight and if your jamstix worked as well as everyones enthusiasm I would have also bought it tonight BUT I use ntrack exclusively and have been for over 4 yrs now. You know Flavio is always upgrading ntrack and loves to improve the ntrack software. Why not go to bat for us by downloading n track and testing it then submitting a bug report at ntrack.com? I would but I don't have the technical background where you would be able to explain what is happening on a level that will bring quicker results.

Jamstix sounds like an awsome program, keep up the great work.
I'll be watching for future developments and compatability with N.
Thanks,
Tom

I just used Jamstix in the n-Track 4 demo without any problems other than that it was only in the left channel, which I attribute to my non-existing knowledge of n-Track. I used MIDI track and then used the Jamstix that shows up in the blue VST icon sub menu at the bottom above DXi.

Could you outline your problems?

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for looking into ntrack for us, that's great! It just might be that jamstix will perform in Ntrack via a midi track, good thinking.

I personally don't have a problem Ralph, I have a live session this weekend and didn't want to risk installing a demo with the chance of tilting my system just before the session. Especially where a support team uses unfavorable remarks towards ntrack. It sounded to iffy! However I know the ntrack forum is active with thousands of reallly cool ntrack users who would truely be intrested in your software. I'm also a proud user of ntrack and want to see that Flavio gets a fair shake, he has treated us all very well and is constantly upgrading and improving ntrack! Ntrack is growing fast so be prepaired! Laughing

Was there a recorded track of jamstix after your experiment? Or did you just try for a jam sound?

Thanks Ralph,
Tom

Hi Tom, I didn't record the MIDI out.

By the way, I wasn't trying to say anything negative about n-Track. I am sure it is a great product with good support.

Once we get a breather here, we'll be able to put more focus in this. Hope you can understand!

I just tried Jamstox again with n-Track and it seems to be more stable with the latest build of n-track (build 1805).

I am having 2 problems though that I have mailed Flavio the N-track developer about but I'll post them here as well as I'm not sure if they are Jamstix or n-Track issues....

when using Jamstix with n-Track the audio output of Jamstix only comes out of the left channel.

Using Jamstix in Tracktion it comes out both channels fine. I don't like Tracktion though so was only using it to Test Jamstix and want to be able to use it in n-Track Smile

Also when using Jamstix if you press stop in n-track and then move the position marker and press play it seems that sometimes the information about what bar the song is up to is sent to Jamstix and sometimes it isn't.
ie. Sometimes Jamestix will change to the correct bar and play from there and sometimes it just keeps playing from the bar that you stopped the song before moving the position marker in n-track.

The second issue is not that much of a problem as a workaround is to just manually set Jamstix to the correct bar, but the first one is a major problem as I obviously don't want mono drum tracks Smile

Sure I understand Ralph we are all very busy! Thanks for checking jamstix in ntrack , I'll try the jamstix demo soon too. Richlum and some other ntrackers are testing it now and we have an active thread going at ntrack.com, so we'll see! I'm personally very intrested and know many more ntrackers are too!
Thanks Smile

Flavio is a great guy, very responsive to user problems, so I would imagine he will take a look at it. FWIW - JS is working (with the functionality I use) in these hosts: Samplitude Pro 8.1, FL5.02, Traction 1.6, Acid Pro 4.0f. This may help Flavio as a reference.
