The drummer of my old band had a nice trick to produce really funky and driving grooves - he would play a steady beat of eights on the hihat with his foot, while playing driving synkopated beats on the ride, thus still having one hand free for the snare, toms and additional hihat accents. (I suppose this is a common way to play, but I'm no drummer so it certainly impressed me...)
I can't find a way to do this in Jamstix, except by creating a regular MIDI track to add the extra hits. It would be nice to be able to do this in Jamstix. A simple way would be to add foot hihat as an extra percussion instrument.
(Oh, and I have to do the obligatory Jamstix praise as well... Jamstix really IS the most musical computer program ever! It's really like having a real drummer on hand. You can explain to it what kind of rythm you want even if you're not a drummer yourself, and it will play it like a human would. Fantastic!) |

Thanks for the praise!
What you describe is a common way to play and Jamstix really should be taught how to do that. We'll put it into a future update (not 1.03 though, too late for that) _________________ Ralph Zeuner

We just released beta X4-18 which allows you to control foot hihats during ride sections and fills in the hihat panel.
