here's the beat, at least what I can get from it:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3305204/sungreenbeat.mp3

there's a few different variations, and i love the fills too - how can i replicate this in jamstix? I know how to do it with a midi file, but how to do it with just audio?

I am going to attempt to get the file into a midi file first...

you can find other examples from this artist here:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/georgependergast
http://www.soundstosample.com/info/Sony/George_Pendergast_altrockdrums/578#

I would use my acid loops from 2000, but
1. cant find the CD
2. dont want to use this sound

extracted the wav from the demos:

here's so far what I came up with:

KTDrumTrigger is a VST plugin with custom editor that triggers MIDI notes based on the sound level of the incoming audio stream in different frequency bands. It allows you to "detect" occurrences of percussive sounds in an audio stream and send out a MIDI event whenever that happens.

You feed audio to it, tweak the filters to suit and record a midi track. Or have I misunderstood what you are trying to do?

hmm, very interesting, thank you! I will check it out but I am still unclear about other parts of the process.

I've made you some rough approximations for you to use.

Download SunGreenBeat ZIP

sungreenbeat.j2d = Basic groove, load via 'Import' style

sungreenbeat_groovefill.j2d = Groove fill at the end of the MP3 you posted, load via bar editor into the appropriate groove bar (not fill).

sungreen1.j2d = Fill at the beginning of the MP3 you posted, load into fill via bar editor.

Hope this helps!

that is insane! Thank you!

I hope this helps me understand the process though, so you don't have to keep replicating my beats for me haha.

I think I'm getting there.

What I do for replication of beats is to hand-edit them in the bar editor. I listen for the basic kick/snare pattern and enter that first, then I add hihat and fine-tune velocities. Once I save that bar as a groove, I can then use it via 'Import' style wherever I need and also add other brain elements if I feel like it. The trick is to count right while listening to the original beat.

Feels are similar. I find the start point time-wise, loop the bar and edit the fill until it sounds right.

You also want to start off with right time/sig and tempo and identifying shuffling if it is present.

All the above can also be done in the MIDI editor of the host but it is much faster in JS, at least for me.
